The Independent Review of Education was an important commitment made in the New Decade, New Approach Agreement, to be taken forward by the Northern Ireland Executive. It presents a real opportunity to ensure that Northern Ireland\u2019s education system works for all children and young people, and helps promote integration and reconciliation at its core.<\/p>
<\/p>
The Government welcomes the establishment of the Review, the publication of its Terms of Reference and the completion of the recruitment process for the Panel. We hope this progress will continue and look forward to the Panel\u2019s findings, which will be for the Northern Ireland Executive to consider and take forward.<\/p>
<\/p>
The Government firmly believes that greater integration within Northern Ireland\u2019s education system is an essential aspect of the reconciliation process in Northern Ireland. That is why, as part of the Stormont House and Fresh Start Agreements, the Government committed to providing up to £500 million of funding to support shared and integrated education projects. The £400 million New Deal for Northern Ireland will also support initiatives to enable children from different community backgrounds to be educated together.<\/p>

This Government is committed to supporting the expansion of Shared and Integrated Education and to that end has set aside up to £500m to develop shared and integrated education in Northern Ireland.<\/p>
<\/em><\/p>The Secretary of State was delighted to underline this commitment in Omagh on Monday where she announced the allocation of £140m to the Strule Shared Education Campus. This campus will bring together 4,200 children from across traditional divides in a world class education facility transforming the delivery of education in the area.<\/p>"}

The Government communicates with the Northern Ireland Executive frequently on a wide range of issues.<\/p>
As part of \u2018Building a Prosperous and United Community\u2019, <\/em>the \u2018economic pact\u2019, the Government committed to provide £100 million of additional borrowing to help support specific shared housing and education projects.<\/p>Through the Stormont House Agreement the Government committed to make substantial capital funding available, up to £500 million over 10 years, to help support shared and integrated education in Northern Ireland. This funding is subject to the full implementation of the Stormont House Agreement and individual projects being agreed between the Executive and the Government.<\/p>
