These efforts have been incredibly successful, seeing a 99% reduction in cases of polio over the last 30 years.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>The Global Polio Eradication Initiative has recently published its new strategic plan for the next phase of eradication activities, until 2023. The strategy does not commit to eradicate Polio by a certain date, as we know that the virus is still circulating in the most difficult environments where it\u2019s extremely hard to reach every last child, such as parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan. There will be a Polio moment in November when international donors are expected to announce ongoing commitment to the global eradication efforts. The UK is currently considering the new strategic plan and will make announcements on Polio in November 2019.<\/p>"}

The UK condemns Houthi interference in the operations of local banks in north Yemen, including the arrest of banking staff in February 2019.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>Effective economic regulations, alongside appropriate economic policies, will have critical humanitarian benefits in Yemen. Whilst the latest total food import levels into Yemen have exceeded pre-conflict requirements, high prices continue to drive the risk of famine.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>The need for effective economic regulation was demonstrated last year, when the Yemeni Riyal lost more than half of its value between January and October 2018. This caused prices to rise steeply and risked making food unaffordable for millions of vulnerable Yemenis. This depreciation was reversed after UK-led efforts released over $400 million of hard currency (provided by Saudi Arabia), to importers bringing food into the country.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>We will continue to constructively engage with the Government of Yemen to prevent any repeated depreciation, and to stabilise Yemen\u2019s economy through more effective and transparent management of its public finance.<\/p>"}

We continue to urge the Israeli and Palestinian leadership to avoid engaging in or encouraging any type of action and language that makes it more difficult to achieve a negotiated solution to the conflict. Officials are looking into the specific allegation raised.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>Our partnership with the Palestinian Authority (PA) includes a commitment from the Palestinian leadership to adhere to the principle of non-violence and to tackle language and avoid actions that could incite violence or hatred. The March 2019 assessment of the terms of the 2018-19 Memorandum of Understanding found that the PA continues to demonstrate a credible commitment to DFID\u2019s \u2018partnership principles\u2019, including the principles of non-violence, under increasingly volatile conditions.
