An expectation that social care providers provide appropriate training to all other relevant staff.<\/p> <\/p> <\/p> <\/p> - All relevant social care staff working with adults and older people accessing social care services being supported to spot the early signs and symptoms of dementia and helping people with the condition to access high quality care and support.<\/p> <\/p> <\/p> <\/p> - A clear evidence base for what works in training on dementia for health and social care staff, which can be used to develop smarter education and training programmes.<\/p> <\/p> <\/p> <\/p> This builds on the progress already made under the Prime Minister\u2019s Challenge on Dementia 2012-2015. This includes over 100,000 social care workers having already received some form of dementia awareness training. Moreover, the Department funded the College of Social Work to develop guidance to improve the quality of practice and inform continuous professional development (CPD) for social workers, to enable high quality care and support for people with dementia and their carers.<\/p> <\/p> <\/p> <\/p> Expenditure on adult social care and the future demand for services will be reviewed as part of the Spending Review.<\/p> <\/p> <\/p> <\/p> This year, the Better Care Fund will provide £5.3 billion of investment in better integrated care, based on joint plans that have been developed locally, and putting resources where the local NHS and social services think it is needed.<\/p> <\/p> <\/p> <\/p> Spending on social care is ultimately a local decision made by individual councils.<\/p> <\/p> <\/p> <\/p> The Care Act 2014 also came into force on 1 April 2015. The document challenges the health and social care community to move further and faster to transform care and support; the public health community, alongside local government, to give health and wellbeing promotion and prevention the long-overdue attention it needs and deserves; and individuals and communities to shift attitudes in mental health.<\/p> <\/p> <\/p> <\/p> Public Health England was established on 1 April 2013 with the mission to protect and improve the nation\u2019s health and to address inequalities through working with national and local government, the National Health Service, industry and the voluntary and community sector. It is supporting local councils and other partners to give greater attention to mental health within the public health system.<\/p> <\/p> <\/p> <\/p> We have called on councils to do what we are doing as a Government and give parity of esteem to mental health, which also means parity in promotion and prevention.<\/p> <\/p> <\/p> <\/p> An increasing number of councils are seeing investment in public health as investment in both physical and mental health. This includes ensuring that all major public health programmes consider and assess the impact on mental health. Much of local council spend and responsibilities impact on mental health, for example the provision of green spaces, recreation and leisure services, cycle routes, planning decisions, housing and community safety, social care, children and families services.<\/p> <\/p> <\/em><\/p> <\/p> Healthy Lives, Healthy People <\/em>commits to ring-fencing public health funding. Local councils have statutory responsibility for improving the health and wellbeing of their populations.<\/p> <\/p>"}
