I welcome the Mayor\u2019s announcement on Thursday, 29 June of a new £300,000 fund to help businesses to recover from these attacks, as well as the attack at Finsbury Park Mosque and the Grenfell Tower fire. Government is considering what more support may be needed to address the impact of these events on businesses.<\/p>
Support is already available for affected businesses through the standard business support services offered by Growth Hubs, including the London Growth Hub and the many local agencies supporting businesses on the ground.<\/p>"}

The central aim of the regulatory framework is to ensure wells are made safe so that they can be decommissioned with no need for on-going attention.<\/p>
<\/p>
Each shale gas licensee (and there may be more than one for each licence) is responsible for the well. When operations finish, the licensees are responsible for safe decommissioning of the well(s) and for restoring the well-site to its previous state or a suitable condition for re-use.<\/p>
<\/p>
The operator is required to design and construct an oil and gas well with a view to its safe decommissioning. The operator is also required to provide a notification to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) prior to decommissioning and abandonment of the well. The notification and subsequent weekly operations reports, submitted by the operator, allow HSE inspectors to scrutinise the activity to ensure that the well is being decommissioned and abandoned as required by the Offshore Installations and Wells (Design and Construction, etc.) Regulations 1996. This requires all oil and gas wells to be abandoned in such a way that there can be no escape of fluids from the well or from the reservoir associated with it, so far as is reasonably practicable.<\/p>

The UK has one of the highest sets of product safety requirements in the EU which requires goods to meet strict safety rules before they are put into use.<\/p>
The Working Group on Product Recalls and Safety submitted its final report in April 2017. I had intended to publish the report then, but the announcement of the General Election prevented me from doing so.<\/p>
Following the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy, I asked the Working Group to urgently review their findings and their report has been published today.<\/p>
I have also asked the Working Group to look at further potential areas of product safety and recalls where action might be required, in light of the tragic events at Grenfell Tower.<\/p>"}
