British travellers who need and want to return to the UK is one of the Government's highest priorities. Since the outbreak in Wuhan, we estimate that over 1.3 million people have returned to the UK via commercial routes - the majority supported by our work to keep vital routes open. Since the Foreign Secretary announced £75m to support repatriation efforts on 30 March, the Government has so far delivered a programme of over 183 charter flights from where commercial options are no longer viable. These flights have brought over 37,700 people from 52 countries and territories, back to UK airports in the East Midlands, London and Manchester. We have also supported repatriation of more than 19,000 British passengers from cruise ships.

Our consular team continues to work around the clock to provide support, advice and information. The situation is fast moving, and our advice at this time is for British nationals to secure safe accommodation and to speak to their tour operator, airline and or insurance company to discuss the options available to them. We are working intensively with the governments of those countries that have closed their borders to people travelling to and from the UK, to enable airlines to bring British nationals home.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4210", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon"} } , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2020-06-16", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2020-06-16T11:29:07.207Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "16"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2020-06-08", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "British Nationals Abroad: Coronavirus"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "2"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25277", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Lords"} } ], "questionText" : "Her Majesty's Government what steps they are taking to facilitate the return to the UK of those British citizens stranded abroad due to the restrictions in place to address the COVID-19 pandemic. The United Kingdom co-sponsored the 2014 UN Human Rights Council resolution, which established an investigation into allegations of serious violations and abuses of human rights during the conflict with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. We welcomed the publication of the report in September 2015. British officials were in regular contact with the UN throughout this period. The report concluded that there were reasonable grounds to believe that gross violations of international human rights law, serious violations of international humanitarian law, and international crimes were committed by all parties. Although different reports have given different figures for the total number of deaths, the fact that many thousands died during the final stage of the conflict is not in dispute.

It is for the Government of Sri Lanka to determine the final casualty figures through a comprehensive independent truth seeking commission, as they have undertaken to do. The commitments that Sri Lanka made to the UN Human Rights Council in October 2015, and again in March 2017, are the best way to establish the truth, and to achieve justice, restitution, and lasting reconciliation.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4210", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon"} } , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2019-02-07", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "groupedQuestionUIN" : [{"_value" : "HL13296"} , {"_value" : "HL13297"} , {"_value" : "HL13298"} ], "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2019-02-07T16:15:17.667Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "16"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2019-01-30", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Sri Lanka: Armed Conflict"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "2"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25277", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Lords"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask Her Majesty's Government how they calculated the number of civilians killed between 1 January and 18 May 2009 in the war between the Sri Lankan armed forced forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1251", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Naseby"} } , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Lord Naseby"} ], "uin" : "HL13295"} ], "itemsPerPage" : 10, "next" : "http://eldaddp.azurewebsites.net/answeredquestions.text?tablingMember.label=Biography+information+for+Lord+Naseby&_page=1&answeringDeptId=16", "page" : 0, "startIndex" : 1, "totalResults" : 20, "type" : ["http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#ListEndpoint", "http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#Page"]} }
