HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is responsible for the collection and publication of data on UK imports and exports of goods to and from the UK. HMRC releases this information monthly, as a National Statistic called the Overseas Trade Statistics.

HMRC does not collect information about movements of goods within the UK. Therefore it is not possible for HMRC to answer part (b) of this question regarding movements between Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

The value of these exports to the Republic of Ireland is set out in the tables below for 2014 - 2016. Data is not yet available for 2017.

The Government has given the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) three statutory objectives – securing an appropriate degree of protection for consumers, protecting and enhancing the integrity of the financial system, and promoting effective competition in the interests of consumers. The government announced in October 2016 that it would not be continuing with proposals to remove the restrictions on the sale of existing annuities.

As these proposals progressed it became increasingly clear that the conditions required for a competitive market to emerge, with multiple buyers and sellers of annuities, could not be balanced with sufficient consumer protections.
