The Home Office does not hold information on the number of individuals charged under The Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act, which came into effect on 13 November 2018. However, police forces in England and Wales provide the Home Office with data on the number of offences recorded of Assault or assault by beating of a constable or emergency worker that resulted in a charge.

Between 13 November 2018 to 31 December 2018, there were 947 offences recorded under the Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act 2018 that resulted in a charge. However, this provides an incomplete count of all individuals charged under this Act because some offences will result in more than one offender being charged and more serious incidents may result in a higher charge such as Grievous Bodily Harm.

The Home Office does not hold data on whether or not the incident occurred in connection with the services provided by the NHS.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4311", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Baroness Williams of Trafford"} } , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Baroness Williams of Trafford"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2019-06-05", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2019-06-05T13:57:30.133Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Home Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Home Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2019-05-22", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Crimes of Violence: Emergency Services"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "2"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25277", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Lords"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask Her Majesty's Government how many individuals have been charged with offences under the Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act 2018; and how many of those incidents occurred in connection with the provision of services by the NHS.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/525", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Clark of Windermere"} } , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Lord Clark of Windermere"} ], "uin" : "HL15916"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1128302", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Home Office"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1128302/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The most robust estimate we have of the scale of modern slavery in the UK was produced by the Home Office in 2014. This estimated that there were between 10,000 and 13,000 potential victims of modern slavery in the UK in 2013. This estimate does not break down into adult and child cases of modern slavery.

In the 2018 UK Annual Report on Modern Slavery the National Crime Agency assessed that the actual scale of modern slavery in the UK is gradually increasing and, if drivers remain at their current levels, will continue to do so over the next three years. The Annual Report is available at the following link:

Latest statistics for 2018 on referrals into the National Referral Mechanism and decisions are available at the link below. These statistics do provide a breakdown between adult and child cases of modern slavery.
