However, all pregnant women in custody have an individual care and management plan that is communicated to all staff and all pregnant women are seen by a mid-wife at least fortnightly or as required.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>Healthcare in prisons is provided by trained medics and nurses, but we have also made training on dealing with pregnant women available to all prison officers.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>We know it is extremely rare for a woman to give birth in prison - because every step is taken to get them to hospital - but those unique cases are invariably down to the unpredictability of labour.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>Our Female Offender Strategy made clear that we want fewer women serving short sentences in custody and more remaining in the community, making use of women\u2019s centres to address needs such as substance misuse and mental health problems.<\/p>"}

This includes recruiting up to 250 judges across the First-tier Tribunal, 125 disability qualified members and up to 230 medical members. We are examining the feasibility of developing such a measure and are exploring how this might be done, including working with Her Majesty\u2019s Inspectorate of Prisons to understand the methodology it uses in its inspections.<\/p><p>Data are published on GOV.UK on the number of prisoners who have completed accredited programmes in custody, the number of hours worked in prison industries, and the number of prisoners released from prison on a temporary licence.<\/p><p>The introduction of Offender Management in Custody, and the associated staffing, mean that prisons will be better equipped to run fuller regimes with more opportunities for purposeful activity. Our Education and Employment strategy launched last year will create a system where prisoners are on a path to employment, through increased opportunities to gain experience of work in communities while released on temporary licence.<\/p>"}
