The 2016 Cost-Benefit Analysis shows that after all costs have been considered, the rollout of smart meters overall is set to deliver £5.7bn of benefits over the lifetime of the programme. The Cost-Benefit analysis took account of real-world data on installations from energy suppliers.<\/p>

The Government\u2019s objective from the start of the rollout has been for SMETS1 meters to be enrolled into the Data and Communications Company (DCC), so that consumers can keep their smart services when they switch energy supplier. The DCC is working on a project to move SMETS1 meters into its national system from late 2018.<\/p>
