Schools are free to cover enterprise and entrepreneurship within their personal, social, health and economic education.

The Government’s careers strategy, published in December 2017, aims to give young people from all backgrounds the opportunity to learn from employers about work and the skills that are valued in the workplace: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/careers-strategy-making-the-most-of-everyones-skills-and-talents.

Statutory guidance sets out further details about the ambition that every school should offer every young person at least seven encounters with employers, including those who are self-employed, during their education as part of a high quality careers programme: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/careers-guidance-provision-for-young-people-in-schools. The Careers & Enterprise Company’s network of Enterprise Advisers will support the delivery of this ambition. Enterprise Advisers are senior business volunteers who help schools to work with local businesses.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/111", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Nick Gibb"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Bognor Regis and Littlehampton"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Nick Gibb"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2018-02-07", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2018-02-07T17:48:47.863Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "60"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Education"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Education"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2018-01-30", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Business: Education"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what steps she is taking to increase entrepreneurship and business education in schools.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1586", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Adam Afriyie"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Windsor"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Adam Afriyie"} ], "uin" : "125570"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/833876", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Education"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/833876/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The Department supports a range of programmes designed to bolster the leadership pipeline. Our recently reformed suite of national professional qualifications help better prepare leaders for the range of roles in today’s school system through from middle leadership to headship and beyond.

The Department also funds targeted programmes that aim to boost leadership capacity in challenging schools such as the High Potential Senior Leaders and High Potential Middle Leaders programmes. The second round of the £75 million Teaching and Leadership Innovation Fund opened on 31 January 2018 and seeks to build leadership capacity in the schools and areas that need it most.

The Department is also committed to supporting more teachers with protected characteristics into leadership through the Leadership Equality and Diversity Fund and Women Leading in Education networks and coaching pledge.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/111", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Nick Gibb"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Bognor Regis and Littlehampton"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Nick Gibb"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2018-02-07", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2018-02-07T17:50:07.093Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "60"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Education"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Education"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2018-01-30", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Headteachers"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what his Department’s strategy is on increasing the number of people who seek to become head teachers.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/252", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Dr David Drew"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Stroud"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Dr David Drew"} ], "uin" : "125634"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/833889", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Education"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/833889/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

Compulsory school age in England is five, although the School Admissions Code requires admission authorities to provide for the admission of all children from the September following their fourth birthday, which is when the majority of children begin school. Since all children in England generally start school at around the same age, it is not possible to compare them with another group of children receiving the same education but who started school at a different age, to assess what impact school starting age may have.

Evidence shows that early education has a beneficial impact on attainment in English and mathematics and that high-quality early education may help close the attainment gap between advantaged and disadvantaged children at the start of primary school.
