Earlier this year, the Government published a White Paper, National Security and Investment, setting out its proposals for new powers to ensure that investments and acquisitions cannot undermine our national security. Civil enforcement is a devolved matter and the powers of Scottish Courts in this respect are therefore a matter for the Scottish Government.<\/p>

However, the Government is clear that where an employment tribunal has made an award then it should be paid promptly. That is why BEIS introduced the UK-wide unpaid award penalty scheme, in addition to other existing enforcement action, to improve award payment rates. Since introduction in April 2016, the unpaid award penalty scheme has levied penalties of £485,646 and secured payment of £829,343 of previously unpaid employment tribunal awards as of January 2018.<\/p>

The West Midlands Combined Authority has recently approved a grant of £98.8m towards the City Centre South scheme. This will be a major retail, leisure and residential development in Coventry City Centre.<\/p>

This builds on financial support offered by the British Business Bank, the Small Business Commissioner ensuring fair payment practices, and Local Growth Hubs offering advice and information, with Coventry & Warwickshire Growth Hub acting as the local contact to business.<\/p>

In addition, Government recently established a panel of experts, chaired by Sir John Timpson, to draw on their experience and expertise to diagnose the issues currently affecting our high streets, and advise on the best long-term approach.
