The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has conducted the following number of Port State Control inspections since 1 January 2019 on the P&O ferries: Pride of Canterbury \u2013 one; Pride of Kent \u2013 two; Pride of Hull \u2013 two; Spirit of Britain \u2013 two; Spirit of France \u2013 one; Norbay \u2013 none; European Causeway \u2013 eight; and European Highlander \u2013 five.<\/p>
There have not been any Port State Control inspections on the Norbay as it is registered in Bermuda which is part of the Red Ensign Group which includes the UK; the UK is considered the Flag State.<\/p>

The Merchant Shipping (Maritime Labour Convention) (Recruitment and Placement) Regulations 2014 are only applicable to recruitment services operating out of UK.<\/p>
The responsibility of verifying compliance with Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) for International Ferry Management lies with Malta, where the company is based.<\/p>
During the Maritime and Coastguard Agency\u2019s Port State Control inspections of the P&O ferries, their inspectors were presented with a Certificate of Compliance issued by RINA on behalf of the Maltese administration that demonstrated compliance with the requirements of the MLC.<\/p>
