Delivering the deal negotiated with the EU remains the Government's top priority. This has not changed. As set out in the Political Declaration on the future relationship between the UK and EU, the Government has offered to cooperate closely on defence and security as part of an ambitious Security Partnership. This would be on a case-by-case basis, where of mutual benefit.

While our focus remains on securing agreement with the EU, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, like the rest of Government, is also preparing for "No Deal". In a No Deal scenario, the UK would have to withdraw from Common Security and Defence Policy missions and operations - both military and civilian - and withdraw associated personnel seconded to the EU institutions. The UK would continue to act through other multilateral fora, including through the UN and NATO, and the UK’s cooperation and collaboration on security and defence with individual EU Member States will continue.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/343", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sir Alan Duncan"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Rutland and Melton"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Sir Alan Duncan"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2019-02-12", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2019-02-12T14:51:38.627Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "16"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2019-02-04", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "UK Relations with EU"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what plans his Department has for future cooperation and collaboration on security and defence policy with the EU27 nations in the event that the UK leaves the EU without a withdrawal agreement.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4006", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Dr Matthew Offord"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Hendon"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Dr Matthew Offord"} ], "uin" : "216263"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1054608", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1054608/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

Maintaining relations with the EU and bilaterally with EU Member States when we leave is a priority. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office's (FCO) network of Posts are the Government's primary tool to influence and engage EU Member States and will play a key role in our future relations with Europe. Last week the Foreign Secretary attended the Foreign Affairs Council with all his EU counterparts. He also held separate bilateral meetings with some of them. As set out in the Government’s ‘Foreign Policy, Defence and Development Future Partnership’ paper, the UK is unequivocally committed to European security and will continue to work closely with the EU on external security following exit from the Union. It is the UK’s intention to pursue a close partnership with the EU, including the possibility of the UK continuing to contribute to EU missions of mutual interest. Non-EU personnel in such missions remain under the full command of their national authorities. Our future participation in these missions will be subject to the Withdrawal Agreement negotiations. The UK remains committed to effective engagement in UN peacekeeping, where we have 325 contingent troops deployed as part of the UN Mission in South Sudan and 265 contingent troops deployed as part of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.
