The worst affected provinces are Kandahar, Helmand, Herat and Farah. More than 40 people are known to have died, and hundreds of others have been injured or are missing. According to the Government, more than 7,100 houses have been damaged and over 5,600 destroyed across Afghanistan. More than 50,000 people require humanitarian assistance.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>At present, the Afghan Government are leading efforts to respond. International organisations are helping them to assess the situation on the ground and respond directly with food, non-food items, hygiene kits, winter clothes and emergency shelter (tents). DFID is closely monitoring what is happening and we stand ready to assist as and when our support is requested or required.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>The UK is at the forefront of the international humanitarian response in Afghanistan. As a result of UK funding, up to two million Afghans received lifesaving assistance in 2018, including hundreds of thousands of Afghans affected by one of the worst droughts the country has ever faced. Our assistance includes shelter and heating support to help displaced people face the winter, as well as food assistance, lifesaving health &amp; nutrition services, clean water, and demining activities.<\/p>"}

The UK is the largest donor to Gavi, which has helped immunise over 700 million children since 2000 and prevented more than 10 million deaths from vaccine preventable diseases.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>Gavi is helping to reduce the number of measles cases by supporting routine immunisation. This is supplemented by rapid vaccination campaigns to stem outbreaks when they occur and limit the spread. Over 67 million people have been vaccinated through Gavi against measles through routine immunisation and over 370 million people have been vaccinated through campaigns.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>The UK will host Gavi\u2019s replenishment in 2020, demonstrating the UK's continued strong commitment to support Gavi's efforts to save children\u2019s lives from measles as well as other vaccine preventable diseases.<\/p>"}

The UK has shown ongoing leadership in responding to the crisis, and by the end of the 2018/2019 financial year will have contributed £570 million in support to Yemen since the conflict began in 2015.<\/p><p> <\/p><p> <\/p><p> <\/p><p>On 24 February 2019, the Prime Minister announced that the UK will provide an additional £200 million for the Yemen response in the next financial year (2019/2020). This support will provide vital food assistance across Yemen to those most at risk of dying from starvation and disease, meeting the immediate food needs of over 3.8 million Yemenis for a month, treating 20,000 children for malnutrition and providing 2 million people with improved water supply and basic sanitation.<\/p><p> <\/p>"}
