A number of respondents to last year\u2019s call for evidence on single use plastic waste suggested that an incineration tax could discourage incineration and promote other forms of waste management such as recycling.<\/p>
At Budget 2018, the Chancellor announced that he would not at this point be taking forward a tax on the incineration of waste. The government has engaged with stakeholders as part of the review of WLTP on vehicle taxes which closed on 17 February.<\/p>

The review sought evidence on how reported carbon dioxide emissions are impacted by the introduction of WLTP and whether any adjustment should be made to Vehicle Excise Duty and company car tax from April 2020.<\/p>

From 2020/21, the government will be introducing eleven new company car tax bands for ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs). These changes were announced at Autumn Statement 2016.<\/p>

The vehicle tax system supports the objectives set out in the government\u2019s 25 Year Environmental Plan.<\/p>

Vehicle Excise Duty and Company Car tax are designed to encourage the uptake of cars with low carbon dioxide (CO2<\/sub>) emissions to meet our legally binding targets. In addition, at Autumn Budget 2017, the government announced a temporary levy on new diesel cars to encourage manufacturers to bring forward the next generation clean models sooner.<\/p>"}
