The Windrush Compensation Scheme staff are working hard to ensure cases are prioritised for claimants with critical or life-limiting illnesses.<\/p>
In the unfortunate circumstances where a claimant has passed away after submitting a compensation claim, before the claim is fully resolved, the team continues to work closely with the appointed representative, usually members of the family, to ensure the compensation payment is made as quickly as possible to the family member.<\/p>
At the end of April 2023, in line with the latest published Transparency data, out of the 6,122 claims received by the Windrush Compensation Scheme, we are aware of 41 claimants who have unfortunately passed away after having submitted a claim.<\/p>
Please note that this data is manually recorded and is reliant on the person receiving the information on a claimant\u2019s death, notifying the Windrush Compensation Scheme to record this information.<\/p>"}

Asylum seekers who would otherwise be destitute are eligible for support under section 95 of the Immigration & Asylum 1999 Act. The support provided usually consists of accommodation with utility bills and council tax paid and a weekly allowance to meet other essential living needs including food and non-alcoholic drink. The Home Office is unable to state the average time taken to process asylum claims because this information is not held in a reportable format, not routinely published, and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost.<\/p>

The Prime Minister made an announcement on the 13 December 2022 committing to clear the backlog of legacy asylum claims, those made before 28 June 2022, by the end of 2023.<\/p>
<\/p>
Separate work is underway to process all other asylum claims awaiting consideration, as laid out in the ministerial written statement of 8 June 2023.<\/p>
<\/p>
We are developing a portal which will enable asylum seekers to access real time updates on their case. An early version of this has been in test with representatives and we are looking to develop its usage and build the asylum seeker aspects during the latter part of this year.<\/p>"}
