The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills operates a flexible working policy that enables employees to work flexibly wherever possible and where this meets the needs of the business. We have been offering our employees the opportunity to work flexibly since April 2012.<\/p>
Decisions on how this operates for an individual employee, and consideration of statutory applications to request flexible working, are managed by line managers at a local level.<\/p>
We do not hold central records on this and there would therefore be a disproportionate cost incurred in collecting this information from our line managers.<\/p>

In the year ending March 2014 net migration to the UK, the difference between the number of people entering and leaving the UK, stood at +243,000.<\/p>

Latest figures from the ONS show that 316,000 emigrated from the UK whilst 560,000 immigrated to it. Of those emigrating 131,000 were UK citizens, accounting for 41% of the total numbers, and of this number 57% emigrated for work related reasons, (although there is no clarification whether the work was highly skilled or not).<\/p>

We have had many suggestions for the creation of a bank holiday after Remembrance Sunday, to celebrate the contribution of the armed forces. We fully understand the support for the idea, as our armed forces do a tremendous job and sadly some make the ultimate sacrifice for our country.<\/p> <\/p> <\/p> <\/p> We believe however that Remembrance Sunday is the most fitting way to commemorate our armed forces, and so we have no plans to observe their achievements and their great sacrifices by means of a new bank holiday.<\/p> <\/p> <\/p> <\/p> We also have to bear in mind the costs of additional bank holidays. In the financial & insurance activities sector, the overall gender pay gap is (including both part time and full time workers) down from 44.3% in 2011 to 40.2% in 2014. However, the sector still has a completely unacceptable pay gap of around twice the national average, so more needs to be done. We are strongly encouraging more girls to consider maths and science-related careers through the \u201cYour Life\u201d initiative. Women in the sector will also benefit from the many other measures we are taking to drive the pay gap down further, including extending flexible working to all employees; introducing Shared Parental Leave; and bringing in new childcare tax provisions. We are also providing free software to companies for them to calculate any pay gaps and to analyse the causes of them.<\/p> <\/p> <\/p> The UK takes a voluntary approach increasing the numbers of women on boards. We are making progress with the Lord Davies business-led initiative to achieve 25% women on boards by 2015 and have moved from 12.5% to nearly 23% of women on the boards of the top 100 companies since 2011. For the first time, every board of Britain\u2019s top 100 companies has at least one woman. Government will continue to work closely with investors, regulators, head hunters and businesses to implement his recommendation of 25% women on boards by 2015.<\/p> <\/p>"}
