Of these recommendations, we consider that 15 have either been completed or were not accepted, and that seven remain in progress. In her annual report for 2018 which was published in April this year, the Ombudsman made nine new recommendations. We are currently in the process of considering these recommendations with the single Services and will respond formally to the Ombudsman once this work is complete.<\/p>"}

It is the responsibility of all those involved to ensure that complaints are handled confidentially, fairly, promptly and correctly.<\/p><p>Once a Service Complaint has been received, the procedures for handling and deciding a complaint are set out in Joint Service Publication (JSP) 831: Redress of Individual Grievances: Service Complaints. This JSP contains the policy and direction on Service Complaints and guidance on the processes involved and best practice to apply.<\/p>"}

It is not possible to determine how many of these specific complaints were not resolved to the satisfaction of the complainant and subsequently referred to the SCO; indeed, some referrals may not have been made until this year. Therefore, the figure of 406 complaint investigations carried out by the SCO which appears in the 2017 Annual Report does not relate directly to those 1,009 complaints received by the Services in the same year. The data would, however, appear to indicate that a significant proportion of Service Complaints are resolved without recourse to the SCO.<\/p>"}
