The UK-Africa Investment Summit brought together businesses, governments and international institutions to showcase and promote the breadth and quality of investment opportunities across Africa.<\/p>
At the Summit, we announced the Trade Connect programme, which will help developing countries, benefit from the UK\u2019s post-Brexit preferential trade arrangements by providing £20 million over 5 years to assist businesses to export more.<\/p>
Through the Taxation (Cross-border Trade) Act 2018, the UK intends to put in place a trade preference scheme that maintains the preferential market access we currently offer to 35 African developing countries trading under the EU\u2019s Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP).<\/p>
We are also rolling over the EU\u2019s Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) and Association Agreements (AAs). We have signed trade agreements with eleven African countries and are seeking to conclude agreements with a further seven countries.<\/p>

The Tech Nation 2019 report, states that the UK attracts more VC tech investment than anywhere else in Europe, with £6.3 billion raised in 2018.<\/p>

The Canada-UK bilateral trading relationship is an important one and vital to our economy. Total trade between the UK and Canada in 2018 totalled £18.4bn and both sides have committed to deepening our commercial relationship further.<\/p>

<\/strong><\/p> The Government, through our overseas network, HM Trade Commissioners, and through Ministerial and Trade Envoy visits, works actively to support trade and reduce barriers for UK companies looking to export to Asia by engaging with the region\u2019s governments and business sectors. Recently we\u2019ve secured market access for UK dairy products to China, worth £240m over five years, and beef and lamb to Japan, worth £127m over five years. We are also lobbying multilaterally, establishing a UK Mission to ASEAN in 2019, and are considering the possibility of the CPTPP as a priority FTA once we leave the EU.<\/p>"}

The Export Strategy, launched in August 2018, sets out how the Government will encourage, inform, connect and finance UK businesses to enable them to take advantage of this international demand.<\/p> <\/p> The Department for International Trade\u2019s offer to UK businesses includes impartial export advice from International Trade Advisors and our overseas network in markets across the world.
