The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right Hon. Friend the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond), strongly condemned the Democratic People\u2019s Republic of Korea (DPRK)\u2019s satellite launch of 7 February, which used ballistic missile technology in clear violation of a number of UN Security Council Resolutions. On 8 February the Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. Friend the Member for East Devon (Mr Swire), summoned the DPRK\u2019s Ambassador to make clear the UK\u2019s strong condemnation of the launch. The DPRK\u2019s actions are a further threat to regional security and the stability of the Korean peninsula. It is clear that the DPRK continues to prioritise its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes over the welfare of its people.<\/p>
<\/p>
We continue to work closely with other members of the UN Security Council to ensure significant and substantive measures are agreed in response to the DPRK\u2019s provocations. On 8 February the Prime Minister, my right Hon. Friend the Member for Witney (Mr Cameron), and the Foreign Secretary raised this with the Chinese Ambassador and reiterated the need for progress on a new UN Resolution.<\/p>

There has been significant progress in stabilising Ivory Coast since the post-electoral crisis of 2010/11, but more needs to be done. Much depends on further reconciliation between the government and opposition, as well as the elections in October 2015, which must be free and fair. We, therefore, welcome the inauguration of the Independent Electoral Commission on 30 August, and the resumption of opposition participation in that Commission in November.<\/p>

Christianity and Islam remain the two main established religions in Nigeria. They share a history of tolerance and peaceful coexistence. The terrorist group Boko Haram is attempting to challenge Nigeria\u2019s secular state and democratic constitution by attacking all Nigerians who do not follow their extremist and intolerant views. Their activities do not command widespread popular support and have caused immense suffering in both Muslim and Christian communities.<\/p>
The UK is helping Nigeria build its own capacity to tackle Boko Haram and stop such attacks. The UK is supporting the Nigerian authorities in trying to establish the girls\u2019 location through the provision of surveillance assets and intelligence expertise. We do not comment on the results of ongoing intelligence operations.<\/p>
Nigeria is a State party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC Office of the Prosecutor has opened a preliminary examination into the situation in Nigeria. It has determined that there is a reasonable basis to believe that crimes against humanity have been committed, namely acts of murder and persecution attributed to Boko Haram.<\/p>

The Government\u2019s position remains the same: the European Union must reform to become more competitive, democratically accountable and fair for those inside and outside the Eurozone. The need for reform is widely acknowledged amongst the EU Institutions and other Member States.<\/p>
The UK\u2019s membership of the EU brings many benefits to the UK, including jobs and investment; a strong collective voice to negotiate free trade agreements; and greater international influence on global threats such as climate change and Ebola.<\/p>

Following the technical visit by the team of European Commission experts to the Gibraltar-Spain border, the Commission wrote to the authorities on both sides with further recommendations and sought an additional update within three months. The European Commission has publicly stated that it considers that checks giving rise to waiting several hours to cross the border are disproportionate and has also expressed concerns about the lack of action from Spain to tackle the delays. By contrast, the Commission has welcomed the steps taken by Her Majesty's Government of Gibraltar (HMGoG) to address its recommendations, including infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving risk-based profiling of travellers crossing the border. HMGoG has since replied to the European Commission with their update.<\/p>

Measures to tackle money laundering and international financial crime in Gibraltar rest with Her Majesty's Government of Gibraltar (HMGoG). HMGoG informs us that Gibraltar has anti money laundering legislation in full compliance with its EU obligations and has been independently reviewed by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and others. We understand that Gibraltar is well advanced on meeting the FATF recommendations and preparing for the future 4th anti-money laundering directive. Gibraltar's Financial Intelligence Unit is a member of the international Egmont Group and shares information with all members of the Group. HMGoG has recently produced a full update on its international measures to fight financial crime, and we will place a copy in the Library of the House.
