Friend the Member for Bournemouth East (Mr Ellwood), raised the need for political reform during his visit to Egypt on 13-15 January. Friend the Member for Bournemouth East (Mr Ellwood), issued a press statement on 26 January expressing concern at the use of deadly force by the police against demonstrators in Egypt. The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. In 2014 the UK sponsored a delegation of Ministry of Justice officials to meet UK counterparts and discuss issues of gender-based violence. These discussions helped inform drafting of the new Egyptian law. We continue to discuss the issue of gender-based violence with the Government of Egypt and are seeking practical ways that we can work together in this area."}

On 5 November Egypt underwent its second review under the Human Rights Council\u2019s Universal Periodic Review (UPR), during which the UK recommended completion of the National Strategy on Violence Against Women with a clear and credible implementation plan, and that Egypt invite the Special Rapporteur for Violence Against Women to visit.<\/p><p> <\/p>"}
