The Department for Education is committed to recruiting high-quality graduates into teaching. The latest data published by UCAS on 25 September 2014 in its ‘UCAS Teacher Training statistical releases’[1], indicates that there will be an increase in computing trainees commencing initial teacher training (ITT) this year, although this will not be certain until the 2014/15 ITT census is published.

For computing trainees starting their training in 2015/16, we have increased bursaries to up to £25,000 tax-free. We are also funding a prestigious scholarship scheme for computing trainees worth £25,000 tax-free and offering a range of professional benefits. Additional funding has also been made available to schools offering School Direct (salaried) places in computing to boost starting salaries; computing trainees will be able to earn over £21,000 nationally and £25,000 in inner London.

There are a range of other incentives in place to attract high quality computing trainees into the teaching profession, including:

  1. The delivery of a targeted marketing campaign to encourage high-quality computing graduates and potential career changers to consider a career in teaching.

  2. The offering of tailored support for graduates and career changers interested in teaching computing, including access to a School Experience Programme.

  3. Funding of computing subject knowledge enhancement (SKE) programmes, which prepare applicants for teacher training by building up or refreshing their existing knowledge. 31% of computing applicants who accepted an ITT place for 2013/14 accessed a SKE course.

    The White Paper published on the 24th July 2018 entitled Legislating for the Withdrawal Agreement between the United Kingdom and the European Union sets out the Government's plans for legislating for those parts of the Withdrawal Agreement which were agreed at the March European Council 2018: citizens' rights, the implementation period and the negotiated financial settlement. It did not cover other areas of the Withdrawal Agreement where negotiations were ongoing at the point of publication. It also did not cover the future relationship.

    Subsequently, we have agreed the terms of our exit from the European Union, as set out in the withdrawal agreement agreed by the EU member states at the special European Council on Sunday 25 November. We also agreed the terms of our future relationship, as outlined in the political declaration. What we have agreed means that we will leave the EU in a smooth and orderly way on 29 March 2019 and sets the framework for a future relationship that delivers in our national interest. It takes back control of our borders, laws and money, it protects jobs, security and the integrity of the United Kingdom, and it delivers in ways that many said could simply not be done. It protects the rights of more than three million EU citizens living in the UK and around one million UK nationals living in the EU. The Withdrawal Agreement offers a time-limited implementation period that provides a bridge to the future relationship, allowing businesses to continue trading as now until the end of 2020. It provides a fair financial settlement for UK taxpayers estimated to be between £35-39bn, resolving our obligations.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4051", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for John Glen"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Salisbury"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "John Glen"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2019-01-29", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2019-01-29T16:17:26.45Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "14"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Treasury"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Treasury"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2019-01-22", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Euratom"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, pursuant to the Answer of 3 December 2018 to Question 196828 on EURATOM, what assessment he has made of the compatibility of the scenarios in the White Paper entitled Legislating for the Withdrawal Agreement between the United Kingdom and the European Union, published on 24 July 2018, and the EU Withdrawal Agreement.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4603", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Preet Kaur Gill"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Birmingham, Edgbaston"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Preet Kaur Gill"} ], "uin" : "211327"} ], "itemsPerPage" : 10, "page" : 0, "startIndex" : 1, "totalResults" : 2, "type" : "http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#Page"} }
