The Government is currently undertaking a post-implementation review of the impact of the legal aid changes made under the Legal Aid Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012. An assessment of the impact of recent changes to the provision of legal aid for non-asylum immigration cases will be made as part of the review process.<\/p>

In 2016 the government consulted on changes to driving offences and penalties relating to causing death or serious injury. In the response to the consultation, published in 2017, the government made clear that it does not propose to make any changes to the legal definitions of careless and dangerous driving. But it does propose to increase the maximum penalties for causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs from 14 years\u2019 imprisonment to life, and to create a new offence of causing serious injury by careless driving.<\/p>"}
