There has been no change of policy on how adjuvant bisphosphonates should be offered to patients for the management of breast cancer since the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance on early and locally advanced breast cancer: diagnosis and management was updated in July 2018.

The use of adjuvant bisphosphonates was one of the key areas that was covered in the update. NICE’s updated recommendations can be found at the following link:

https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng101/chapter/Recommendations#bisphosphonate-therapy

The guideline recommends bisphosphonates as adjuvant therapy for postmenopausal women with node positive invasive breast cancer and for postmenopausal women with node negative breast cancer.

As part of the NHS Long Term Plan, we are establishing specialist Alcohol Care Teams (ACTs) in hospitals with the highest rates of alcohol harm. It is estimated that this will prevent 50,000 admissions over five years.

All clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) have been allocated a Health Inequalities Funding Supplement contribution to their indicative baselines. NHS England and NHS Improvement, through the Long Term Plan, have highlighted the evidence base for ACTs and indicated that where required, commissioners should utilise monies from this funding supplement to close health inequality gaps associated with alcohol dependence.

Additionally, for those areas with the highest levels of demand, additional targeted monies will be invested directly to ensure the provision of optimal ACTs starting from 2020/21.

Local authorities will also receive over £3 billion in 2019/20 to be used exclusively on public health including alcohol treatment services.

NHS Digital publishes Hospital and Community Health Services workforce statistics. These include staff working in hospital trusts and clinical commissioning groups (CCGs), but not staff working in primary care or in general practitioner surgeries, local authorities or other providers.

As at March 2019, the latest available data, there were over 4,300 clinical radiologists employed by National Health Service trusts and CCGs - this is 1,100 more since 2010.

The interim NHS People Plan, published on 3 June 2019, puts the workforce at the heart of the NHS and will ensure we have the staff needed to deliver high quality care. A final People Plan will be published soon after the conclusion of the 2019 Spending Review.

The Cancer Workforce Plan for England, published in December 2017 by Health Education England (HEE), set out plans to expand capacity and skills in the cancer workforce, including targeting additional training support for seven priority professions such as clinical radiology, histopathology, oncology and diagnostic and therapeutic radiography. Since 2017 there has been an increase of 343 full time equivalent staff within clinical radiology.

HEE will now work with NHS England and NHS Improvement to understand the longer-term workforce implications of further development of cancer services. This work will inform the final People Plan.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4455", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Seema Kennedy"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "South Ribble"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Seema Kennedy"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2019-07-15", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2019-07-15T16:28:20.993Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "17"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2019-07-05", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Radiology: Staff"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, pursuant to the Answer of 4 July to Question 270295, how many radiologists (a) work for the NHS and (b) will be recruited in the next five years.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/481", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sir George Howarth"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Knowsley"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Sir George Howarth"} ], "uin" : "273745"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1137156", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department of Health and Social Care"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1137156/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "
