Many National Health Service organisations, including general practices, use automated telephone messages as a way of reminding patients about their upcoming appointments. This can provide improved access to care for patients in a way that makes best use of clinicians’ time while avoiding missed appointments and their associated costs. We recognise that the number of Changing Places toilets in hospitals and healthcare settings is limited at present. Several actions are underway to improve provision and access to these facilities on the National Health Service estate.

Access to Changing Places has been included as an indicator in the Learning Disability Improvement Standards, published in June 2018 by NHS Improvement, which will be used to measure how well trusts support people with a learning disability.

The Department of Health and Social Care is working with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government in reviewing the Approved Document Part M guidance in relation to Building Regulations, which considers accessibility with a view to increasing provision of Changing Places.

The Department is considering what other actions may be taken to improve provision and availability of Changing Places toilets across the NHS estate.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4008", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Dame Caroline Dinenage"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Gosport"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Caroline Dinenage"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2018-09-17", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2018-09-17T13:01:26.563Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "17"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2018-09-11", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Health Services: Public Lavatories"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what progress has been made in increasing (a) the number of and (b) access to Changing Places toilets in hospitals and other health settings.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4056", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Nic Dakin"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Scunthorpe"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Nic Dakin"} ], "uin" : "173573"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/971669", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department of Health and Social Care"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/971669/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "
