The Department agrees the National Health Service list price for new medicines, which are public. We do not intend to publish negotiated net prices. These are market sensitive and so must be treated as commercial in confidence to allow the NHS to secure the best value arrangements from the manufacturer.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence assesses important, new medicines through a robust evaluation process, which ensures they are priced in a manner that is cost-effective for the value they provide to patients and to the NHS. The costs and source of financial support in developing medicines is not a relevant part of this assessment, and there are no plans to include this. Research and development funding will come from a wide range of sources, both in the United Kingdom and internationally. Funding for research initially directed towards the development of a product that is unsuccessful in clinical trials may contribute to a subsequent breakthrough, so it is not practical to accurately attribute the contribution made by public investment or private investment in bringing each product to market.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4067", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Steve Brine"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Winchester"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Steve Brine"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2017-11-16", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2017-11-16T12:15:16.137Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "17"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Health"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Health"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2017-11-13", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "NHS: Drugs"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Health, if his Department will take steps to ensure that for each originator medicine procured by the NHS there are standard and publicly available reporting requirements of (a) the final negotiated net price charged to the NHS, (b) the research and development (R&D) costs attributable to that medicine, (c) any public contributions to R&D costs and (d) that medicines manufacturing costs.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4122", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Alex Cunningham"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Stockton North"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Alex Cunningham"} ], "uin" : "112617"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/780491", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department of Health"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/780491/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

Changes to the figures over time need to be interpreted in the context of improvements in data quality and coverage and changes in NHS practice. For example, changes in activity may be due to changes in the provision of care. Note that HES include activity ending in the year in question and run from April to March, e.g. 2012-13 includes activity occurring between 1 April 2012 and 31 March 2013.

The Department expects clinicians and professionals to work together in an integrated way across health and care system to support the needs of children and young people. This includes between professionals working in mental and physical health. This process should be supported by appropriate sharing of information to support the individual’s care.

“Future in Mind,” the report of the Children’s and Young People’s Mental Health Task Force, published in 2015, also sets out the importance of services monitoring attendance and suggests that services actively follow up families and young people who miss appointments. It also suggests that it may be necessary to find alternative ways to engage the child, young person or family.
