NHS England has provided clear direction and support to clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) on their duties to have regard to reducing health inequalities. In the Forward View Into Action: Planning for 2015/16 it states: \u201cClinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) should work with local government partners to set and share in 2015/16 quantifiable levels of ambition to reduce local health and healthcare inequalities and improve outcomes for health and wellbeing.\u201d<\/p>

Additional guidance for commissioners on the equality and health inequalities duties and what this means in practice was issued within the supplementary information for commissioners, as part of the overall planning guidance for 2015/16.<\/p>

Furthermore, \u2018Reducing Health Inequalities - Meeting our Duties\u2019 regional workshops have been provided in 2014/15 for CCGs and their local partners. These workshops support CCGs, Health and Wellbeing Boards, and local authorities in their legal duties to reduce health inequalities.<\/p>

The local commissioners regard this as a priority and have committed £100,000 to spend immediately on equipment.<\/p>

In January this year, it was agreed that Cambridge University Hospitals will act as the hub in a network model covering the East of England. The work to establish the service is now in train. It is intended that there will be a limited service up to April 2015 with priority given to people with degenerative conditions until the recruitment process is complete. The aim is to have the full service in place soon after this.<\/p>

It has been agreed that there will be a further stocktake of progress on all the agreed contract changes and action plans in the next few weeks.<\/p>

Information is not collected at a national level regarding the number of additional speech and language therapists recruited. Recruitment is underway and progress is being monitored by the local commissioning teams of NHS England as part of the routine contract management arrangements.<\/p>

Since 1 April 2013, NHS England has been responsible for commissioning Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) aids for patients with complex disability whose needs require specialised assessment.<\/p>
