The UK is committed to working with partners to meet the needs of the people of Sudan, regardless of the political situation. This is not dependent on fixed term-limits for governing and elected officials, but we do support the establishment of proper democratic processes. UK aid is currently channelled through multilateral organisations, international Non-Governmental Organisations and commercial partners, which are monitored by DFID in Sudan. During the 39 month transitional period the UK will continue to provide lifesaving aid to the most vulnerable and urge the Civilian-led Government of Sudan to undertake much needed economic and political reforms to support prosperity and the rights of the people of Sudan. The UK believes all children should have access to lifesaving vaccines and is committed to supporting their increased uptake internationally. We deliver this through our strong investment in Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, which will vaccinate an additional 76 million children in 68 of the world\u2019s poorest countries by 2020.<\/p>

We are deeply concerned that opposition to vaccinations and spread of anti-vaccine misinformation could undermine these hard-fought gains that have helped protect the world\u2019s most vulnerable children from vaccine preventable diseases and outbreaks. Gavi shares this concern and works through civil society groups at local levels to address opposition to vaccines. These groups monitor anti-vaccine sentiment at local levels and help counter vaccine misinformation by providing accurate information of their health benefits. This approach helps provide a deeper understanding of the causes of opposition to vaccinations. An Ebola outbreak was declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in North Kivu and Ituri provinces, on August 1, 2018. The UK has been a major contributor to the response from the very beginning, providing both financial and technical support to tackle the disease and prevent its spread. Our funding to the WHO, other UN partners and the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) is supporting infection prevention and control, safe and dignified burials, community engagement and accountability, psychosocial support - particularly to survivors, and broader health systems strengthening.<\/p>

The UK is also the leading donor for regional preparedness to prevent the spread of the disease to neighbouring countries Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan.
