The UK condemns the ongoing serious human rights violations by the Myanmar military regime. Nearly 20,000 people are arbitrarily detained in Myanmar - among them journalists, healthcare workers and political prisoners and over 25,000 have been arrested since the coup in February 2021. We have received reports of torture, sexual violence, ill treatment and fatalities in detention. We continue to call for the release of all those arbitrarily detained, including most recently in a UN General Assembly resolution co-sponsored by the UK and adopted on 15 November 2023.<\/p>"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4210", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon"} } , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2024-01-08", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "groupedQuestionUIN" : {"_value" : "HL1313"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2024-01-08T15:22:05.343Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "208"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2023-12-19", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Myanmar: Democracy"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "2"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25277", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Lords"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of reports of torture and fatalities of pro-democracy activists in Burma.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/738", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Alton of Liverpool"} } , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Lord Alton of Liverpool"} ], "uin" : "HL1312"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1679225", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Treasury"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1679225/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "
