In recent years we have bolstered local authorities\u2019 powers to tackle fly-tipping, introducing fixed penalty notices and strengthening the power to seize the vehicles of offenders. We have also provided £450,000 to help several councils purchase equipment to tackle fly-tipping, such as CCTV, and worked with the National Fly-Tipping Prevention Group to produce a guide on how councils and others can present robust prosecutions that support tougher sentences.
We have committed to raising fly-tipping penalties in our manifesto and will be conducting research to support policy development in this area. We are also preparing a number of legislative reforms to tackle waste crime more broadly which should also help tackle fly-tipping. This includes reform of the waste carrier, broker, and dealer regime and the introduction of digital waste tracking, both of which we consulted on earlier this year. We believe it is important that local residents are able to dispose of their rubbish in a responsible manner and encouraged to do so. We have consulted on preventing charges for disposing of DIY waste at local tips and provided communication materials to help householders better understand their responsibilities under the household waste duty of care.<\/p>"}

In 2016, the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) published an assessment of the evidence on vitamin D and a range of health outcomes. The SACN\u2019s recommendations informed the current Government advice for a daily 10 microgram supplement of vitamin D to be taken throughout autumn and winter for musculoskeletal health due to reduced sunlight.<\/p>
Those at increased risk of receiving insufficient vitamin D are advised to consider taking a vitamin D supplement throughout the year: those with minimal sunshine exposure (housebound or institutionalised older people and those wearing clothes that cover most of the skin when outdoors) and population groups with dark skin (such as those with an African, African-Caribbean or south Asian background). All children aged one to four years old and babies not receiving more than 500 millilitres of infant formula a day are also advised to take a daily vitamin D supplement throughout the year.<\/p>
The Government\u2019s Healthy Start scheme helps to encourage a healthy diet for pregnant women, babies and young children under four from\u202flow-income\u202fhouseholds. The UK is committed to protecting endangered animals and plants from poaching and illegal trade to benefit wildlife, local communities and the economy, and protect global security. We are investing over £46 million globally between 2014 and 2022 to counter illegal trade by reducing demand, strengthening enforcement, ensuring effective legal frameworks and developing sustainable livelihoods. The African Union is the pre-eminent regional body mandated to defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of its Member States, of which Somalia is one.
