A central aim of Universal Credit is to ensure that people are better off in work, and one of the key communication objectives is to help claimants understand how Universal Credit makes work pay. This message is being communicated through a range of claimant contact points, including the Universal Credit pages of GOV.UK, the online partner toolkit, printed materials and interactions between claimants and advisers (from DWP and other partner organisations).

Calculators are available on the internet that can help claimants to estimate what their income is likely to be on Universal Credit. These are not sponsored by DWP, but providing accurate information is given, they have a role to play in helping people to understand how much better off they are in work.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4033", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for David Rutley"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Macclesfield"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "David Rutley"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2022-04-06", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2022-04-06T15:08:13.593Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "29"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Work and Pensions"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Work and Pensions"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2022-03-29", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Universal Credit"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what assessment she has made of the effect of her Department's advice on Universal Credit on the financial wellbeing of families.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4638", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mr Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Slough"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Mr Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi"} ], "uin" : "149339"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1455261", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1455261/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "
The Office for National Statistics publishes data on UK gross expenditure on research and development (GERD). Its latest published figures show £38.5 billion in 2019 compared to £25.9 billion in 2010, a nominal increase of about 49%. Adjusted for changes in the GDP deflator, this suggests an increase in constant prices of about 26% over the same period.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4020", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for George Freeman"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Mid Norfolk"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "George Freeman"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2022-04-04", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2022-04-04T15:10:59.227Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "201"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2022-03-29", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Research: Finance"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, if he will make an assessment of trends in the levels of real-terms research funding since 2010.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4638", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mr Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Slough"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Mr Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi"} ], "uin" : "149340"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1455262", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1455262/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "
The UK was one of the earliest and largest donors to COVAX, contributing £548 million to the COVAX Advance Market Commitment (AMC). Our early funding gave the COVAX AMC the purchase power to secure deals with manufacturers to supply internationally approved vaccines for up to 92 low and middle-income countries. So far, COVAX has helped deliver over 1.16 billion doses to 144 participants.

In addition, as of 28 March, the UK has delivered 44.9 million vaccines to COVAX. COVAX will receive a further 16.7 million doses direct from the manufacturer when they are available. Discussions about further donations are ongoing, subject to supply chain reliability and Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation advice.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4454", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Dame Amanda Milling"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Cannock Chase"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Amanda Milling"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2022-04-06", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2022-04-06T15:48:53.62Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "208"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2022-03-29", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Coronavirus: Vaccination"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what progress the Government has made in meeting the pledge to donate 80 million covid-19 vaccines doses to COVAX by June 2022.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4638", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mr Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Slough"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Mr Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi"} ], "uin" : "149341"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1455263", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Transport"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1455263/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "
An individual’s entitlement to rights at work is determined by their employment status, employee, worker or self-employed. Though most private hire vehicle drivers are considered to be self-employed, they can be classed under any of these depending on their employment relationship.

Employees are entitled to all rights including being protected against unfair dismissal (subject to qualifying periods) and have responsibilities towards their employer. So called limb (b) workers are entitled to core employment rights but have increased flexibility and self-employed individuals generally have no employment rights but have complete flexibility in their work and are in business for themselves and provide a service to a client. If an individual believes they have been classified in the wrong way they can contact Acas, which deals with questions from employers, individuals, and others about a wide range of employment relations matters.

An employer needs to have a valid reason and take appropriate steps if they are to dismiss an employee. All domestic electricity customers in Great Britain will receive a £200 reduction in their electricity costs from this October through the Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS). Third parties such as landlords should pass on the £200 reduction to the end users. The Government will recoup the costs of the EBSS in full from domestic energy bills over five years from 2022-23.

The Government will explore these issues further through a public consultation run by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in the spring.
