As a responsible Government, we\u2019ve been preparing to leave the EU for nearly three years. We are putting in place a range of preparations for all scenarios and the Department for Exiting the European Union\u2019s role is in part to deliver and legislate for the UK\u2019s smooth and orderly exit from the EU.<\/p>
The Treasury has allocated over £4.2 billion of additional funding to departments and Devolved Administrations for EU exit preparations so far. This funding is to cover all exit scenarios and is in addition to departmental efforts to reprioritise from business as usual toward preparations for the UK\u2019s departure from the EU. Work on no-deal exit preparations cannot be readily separated from other EU exit work, given the significant overlap in plans in many cases.<\/p>

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, the Home Office and the Department for Education work collaboratively across departments to support children in care who need to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme. Officials have been in contact with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and I have written to Ministers Nokes and Minister Zahawi whose departments work together to support children in care to apply for settled status.<\/p>
Copies of both these letters and the responses from Minister Zahawi and Minister Nokes will be deposited in the House library.<\/p>
The Home Office is running a series of MP Parliamentary Caseworker events to inform MPs about the EU Settlement Scheme; we would recommend that MPs who want more information about the scheme attend these sessions.<\/p>

The Department for Exiting the European Union was set up as a time limited department and as such the majority of staff are employed on 2-year fixed term contracts or are loaned from other Government Departments on a similar basis. The increase in numbers of leavers towards the end of 2018 and beginning of 2019 is mainly due to planned leavers moving to other government departments following the end of their pre-set loan agreement or job rotation, or have left the civil service following the end of their 2-year fixed-term appointment. The department undertakes succession planning to ensure it maintains its high standards of delivery.<\/p>

That is why it is in the interests of both sides to maintain trading links once the UK has left the EU; to protect jobs and our economy while allowing us to honour the referendum and realise the opportunities of Brexit.<\/p> The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) publish estimates on trade in employment, including on the amount of jobs linked to exports.
