There has been no assessment of the effect of delays to the introduction of faecal immunochemical test to the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme on the diagnosis rates of Bowel Cancer at stage one, stage two, stage three and stage four, or on the mortality rates of bowel cancer in England.

The National Health Service in England already has a world class bowel cancer screening programme for people aged 60-74 years, with survival rates improving year on year. Regular bowel cancer screening has been shown to reduce the risk of dying from bowel cancer by 16%, and around 60% of bowel cancer patients now survive five years or more compared to around 25% 40 years ago. Over 95% of men and women survive for five years or more if their bowel cancer is diagnosed at stage one.

The NHS Long Term Plan includes a proposal to modernise the bowel cancer screening programme to detect more cancers earlier and faecal immunochemical testing at 120ug/g will be integrated into the programme from April 2019.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4067", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Steve Brine"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Winchester"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Steve Brine"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2019-02-07", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2019-02-07T15:19:47.553Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "17"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2019-01-31", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Bowel Cancer: Screening"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment his Department have made of the effect of delays to the introduction of the faecal immunochemical test to the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme on (a) the diagnosis rates of Bowel Cancer at (i) stage one, (ii) stage two, (iii) stage three and (iv) stage four and (b) the mortality rates of bowel cancer in England.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4056", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Nic Dakin"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Scunthorpe"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Nic Dakin"} ], "uin" : "215181"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1052220", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Home Office"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1052220/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The departmental budget for spending on sixth form funding in England from 2015-16 to 2019-20 was set in the 2015 Spending Review. As with other areas of departmental spending, sixth form funding from 2020 onwards will be considered as part of the next Spending Review.

We have protected the base rate of funding for 16 to 19 year olds for all types of providers until the end of the current spending review period in 2020 and overall, the government plans to invest nearly £7 billion during 2018-19, to ensure there is a place in education or training for every 16 to 19 year old who wants one. We are considering the efficiency and resilience of the sector and are assessing how far the current funding and regulatory structures enable high quality provision for young people.

The department works closely with HM Treasury in considering sixth form funding at ministerial and official level, and will continue to do so in the lead-up to the Spending Review.
