This government is committed to world class public services. To ensure teaching remains an attractive and fulfilling profession, we are delivering a fully funded pay rise of up to 3.5% for classroom teachers on the main pay range, 2% for those on the upper pay range and 1.5% for those in leadership positions.

For recruitment to initial teacher training starting in September 2018 we put in place a range of measures including generous bursaries, worth up to £26,000 for priority subjects, to encourage even more talented trainees to key subjects such as maths and physics.

Earlier this year my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State announced the development of a new strategy to drive recruitment and boost retention of teachers. The University Mental Health Charter announced in June 2018 will drive up standards in promoting student and staff mental health and wellbeing. From 28 August we commenced our first private beta phase of the EU Settlement Scheme to prove some of the functionality and processes in a live environment.

This phase is open to around 4,000 eligible EU citizens from three Liverpool universities and 12 NHS Trusts in North West England who are working for or studying at these institutions. Any non-EU citizen family members of EU citizens who have previously been issued a biometric residence card under the EEA Regulations and are working for or studying at these institutions are also eligible.

The private beta phase is entirely voluntary. EU citizens and non-EU citizen family members who are eligible do not need to apply now and can choose to apply after the scheme has rolled out fully. Given the voluntary nature of the private beta phase, we do not expect all eligible EU citizens and non-EU citizen family members to apply.

Applications will cost £65, which is the standard fee for applicants aged 16 or over. It will, however, be free for those with valid permanent residence or indefinite leave to remain documentation.

We will use the learning from this phase to improve our processes ahead of further phased roll outs to all eligible EU citizens and their non-EU citizen family members. Feedback from users so far has been very positive.

We will provide further details in due course of these subsequent phases, and we will continue to update Parliament as part of that process.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4048", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Caroline Nokes"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Romsey and Southampton North"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Caroline Nokes"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2018-09-11", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "groupedQuestionUIN" : [{"_value" : "171406"} , {"_value" : "171408"} , {"_value" : "171409"} , {"_value" : "171410"} ], "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2018-09-11T11:44:38.723Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Home Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Home Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2018-09-06", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Immigration: EU Nationals"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many and what proportion of the people who have been invited in the pilot of the application process for the EU Settlement Scheme are in employment or in full-time education.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4058", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Paul Blomfield"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Sheffield Central"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Paul Blomfield"} ], "uin" : "171411"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/969143", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/969143/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The government’s sport strategy “Sporting Future” highlighted the importance of focusing on groups that are less likely to take part in sport and physical activity, including women and girls.

Sport England, government’s arm’s length body for community sport, funds the Football Association (FA) to encourage participation in the women’s game, both in developing talented women and girls as well as supporting participation at the grassroots. For 2017-2021 Sport England awarded The FA £14.6m. This investment includes funding for programmes like ‘Grow the Game’ aimed at supporting new women’s and disability teams.

The FA has partnered with Sport England’s “This Girl Can” campaign, to encourage more women and girls to get involved with the sport across the country. In Kent, Sport England funding has helped Kent FA start the Player Development Centre which has seen many girls receive extra coaching opportunities.
