answer text
In addition to dedicated resettlement schemes for Afghanistan, Hong Kong and Ukraine, the UK welcomes refugees and people in need of protection through the UK Resettlement Scheme (UKRS), Community Sponsorship, Family Reunion, and Mandate Resettlement Schemes.

Any person who is not a British Citizen can claim asylum in the UK as long as they meet the requirements to do so, as set out in the Immigration Rules and published policy.

A claim for asylum from an adult who is not a British Citizen will be accepted where they make a particularised protection claim in person at a designated location. If they have previously applied for asylum, they would be required to submit new evidence under the further submissions process. A particularise protection claim refers to them providing a basic reason why they fear persecution or serious harm.

In the case of children claiming asylum, there is no requirement to particularise a protection claim when they register their claim.

A self-declared refugee or someone who has been recognised as a refugee by another country or the UNHCR would not be excluded from claiming asylum. If refugee status has been provided by another country or the UNHCR, that will be taken into consideration when the claim is decided.

answer text
The All-Party Parliamentary Group Report outlines the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global HIV/AIDS response based on surveys conducted by the Global Fund. The report highlights the support to the global HIV/AIDS through UK investments but does not attempt to attribute changes in global progress to UK funding levels. The report makes four recommendations for UK consideration, including making supplementary allocations to organisations working on the HIV response, community-led responses and research and development. The UK remains committed to addressing HIV and AIDS through our development programming. This currently includes our funding of £1.4 billion to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, and funding for UNAIDS, Unitaid and the Robert Carr Fund. Future funding, beyond our current commitments, will be determined as part of departmental business planning in line with departmental allocations announced in last year's Spending Review and guided by the approaches set out in the Health Systems Strengthening Position Paper and Ending Preventable Deaths approach.

answer text
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s (FCO) Special Envoy for Gender Equality visited the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPTs) in November 2017, focusing on violence against women and girls. The UK continues to lobby for the adoption of a Family Protection Bill that would address some of our concerns around gender based violence. The FCO also works closely with other government departments, including the Department for International Development (DFID), and with the Palestinian Authority to enhance gender equality in the OPTs. DFID has supported interventions to tackle violence against women and girls by working with the Palestinian security and justice sectors. This has included the development of Police Family Protection and Juvenile Units, the specialisation of public prosecutors to work on cases of violence against women and the development of a gender strategy for the Palestinian Civil Police.
more like this

answer text
DFID has allocated £5 million to the International Organization for Migration to provide life-saving assistance to migrants and refugees in Libya, Sudan and the Balkans. This includes support for them to return home if they wish to do so and improvements to conditions in Libyan detention centres. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has been assigned £9.8 million for their work in Greece, the Balkans and North Africa, to improve refugee status determination processes, and support local integration and assisted voluntary returns. The remainder has been allocated to trusted partners to meet the needs of vulnerable women and girls, enable rapid responses to new crises, such as freezing winter conditions in the Balkans, and improve the evidence base to enable the humanitarian system to respond more effectively.
more like this
