<p>As announced in the Queen’s Speech, our Domestic Violence and Abuse Bill will enshrine for the first time in statute a legal definition of domestic abuse. This will help to ensure domestic abuse is properly understood as more than simply violence, but also as including ongoing mental, emotional and financial abuse.</p><p>We recognise how important it is to get this right which is why we have already been in close contact with key partners and experts to shape our thinking, and we will shortly be launching a comprehensive consultation on all aspects of our domestic abuse programme.</p>
