star this property answer text <p>The Department estimated that around 2 million people in the UK use alternative fuels and are eligible for this payment.</p><p>The Alternative Fund for the Alternative Fuel Payment, the element which requires an application, launched recently on 6 March and early data is still being collected. Electricity suppliers, who deliver the automatic enrolment element of the scheme, recently provided MPAN-level delivery data to the Government. Transparency data will be published in due course.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government expanded the Warm Home Discount scheme to support more low-income and vulnerable households. The Government published impact assessments when consulting and publishing the Government’s response.</p><p>To be eligible for a rebate under Core Group 2, a household must be in receipt of a qualifying means-tested benefit and living in a property which we have estimated to have relatively high heating costs. Broadly speaking, larger properties, as well as older and more detached properties, have higher heating costs and therefore are more likely to be eligible for a rebate.</p><p>These changes do not apply in Scotland, where customers apply for a Broader Group rebate through their energy suppliers, who can set their own eligibility criteria.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The outlook for energy prices has improved significantly since the 2022 Autumn Statement, with the Ofgem price cap falling 55% since its peak earlier this year.</p><p><br> The Government is providing Cost of Living Payments to UK households on eligible means tested benefits, including over 6 million people across the UK eligible ‘extra-costs’ disability benefits’, for those who face wider affordability challenges. This is in addition to ongoing winter support payments such as the Warm Home Discount, Winter Fuel Payment and Cold Weather Payments</p><p> </p><p>Government will continue to monitor the situation and keep options under review.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Prepayment meters can continue to play a role in the market, however it is important that the rules around their use are sufficient to protect consumers and are properly enforced. Involuntary installations should only ever be a last resort for managing customer debts.</p><p> </p><p>Ofgem implemented new rules regarding the involuntary installation of prepayment meters on 8th November and suppliers must refrain from all involuntary installations for high-risk customers. The Government will continue to work closely with Ofgem and industry to see that the new rules lead to positive changes for consumers and won't hesitate to intervene again if necessary.</p> more like this

Friend Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer stated the Government’s intention to include nuclear in the UK Green Taxonomy, subject to consultation, incentivising private investment in this important technology alongside renewables. The Government will provide a further update on the taxonomy as part of its publication of the Green Finance Strategy shortly.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to expanding electricity network capacity to accommodate new clean sources of electricity generation and demand, as set out jointly with Ofgem in the Electricity Networks Strategic Framework.</p><p>Ofgem has already accelerated nearly £20bn of strategic transmission projects to increase grid capacity to support the government’s 2030 renewables ambition and has allowed £22.2bn for distribution networks to expand capacity ready for low-carbon technology growth.</p><p>The government is establishing a new Future System Operator with responsibilities across both the electricity and gas systems, including strategically planning the networks to further support grid investment decisions.</p> more like this
