The Government, working with industry, is undertaking further work to assess the technical feasibility, costs, benefits and other impacts of using hydrogen, relative to other heat decarbonisation technologies. We received 86 applications in total for Phase 1A funding - 70 of these were from individual Local Authorities and 16 were from consortia made up of a total of 90 Local Authorities.</p><p> </p><p>Experience of the Phase 1A application process informed design of the Phase 1B scheme, and we requested Local Authorities submit EOIs in order to estimate the likely quantum of applications. It was conducted by the Oil and Gas Authority (now the North Sea Transition Authority), and concluded on 30 September 2020, with 113 licences offered.</p><p> </p><p>Four offshore licences were also offered in 2019.</p><p> </p><p>No onshore licences have been offered in England in this period.
