The Government remains committed to delivering on the result of the 2016 EU referendum by leaving the EU.</del></p><p><br /><del class="ministerial">An Act of Parliament is required before any UK-wide referendum can be held, the terms of which are for Parliament to debate and agree, including provisions for setting the data, franchise and the question as well as incorpating adequate time to prepare for the poll and a minimum campaigning period.</del></p><p> </p><p><ins class="ministerial">The Government has no plans to hold another referendum on EU membership. unstar this property answer text <p><del class="ministerial">In 2014 Government agreed up to £7.5 million funding to support Sir Ben Ainslie’s America’s Cup team and their proposal to be based on the Camber in Portsmouth. Details of this funding agreement have previously been released and are publicly available here:</del></p><p><del class="ministerial"><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-approves-75-million-for-sir-ben-ainslie-project-to-boost-portsmouth" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-approves-75-million-for-sir-ben-ainslie-project-to-boost-portsmouth</a></del></p><p><del class="ministerial">No further funding to the team is currently planned.</del></p><p> </p><p> </p><p><ins class="ministerial">In 2014, under the Coalition Government, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the Department for Communities and Local Government, and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport agreed a funding package of up to £7.5 million to support Sir Ben Ainslie’s America’s Cup team and their proposal to base their permanent headquarters on the Camber in Portsmouth. This was announced by the then Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, the Rt hon Member for Twickenham (Sir Vince Cable).</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial"> </ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">This funding ensured the racing team’s commitment to basing their operations in Portsmouth for a minimum of 12 years to support three America’s Cup cycles, which in turn enabled economic benefits for the city’s marine and maritime sector. It also helped support community engagement and sailing participation projects in collaboration with Sport England.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial"> </ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The benefits arising from this investment extended beyond the sailing team. unstar this property answer text <p>The Foreign Secretary met his Emirati counterpart in a meeting of the Yemen Quad on 27 September at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He urged his counterpart to seize the opportunity for political progress. The Emirati Foreign Minister underlined his complete support for the UN process led by Special Envoy Martin Griffiths. They discussed the destabilising effect of Iran on Yemen and the wider region, how to put in place confidence-building measures following the breakdown of the Geneva peace talks, and how they could provide greater assistance to the Yemeni people by facilitating the entry of humanitarian and commercial goods into Yemen.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Since the Referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union the Government has recruited, or is in the process of recruiting, 13 additional members of staff to work on economic issues at the UK Mission in Geneva, including the UK’s engagement in the World Trade Organization. Staff were recruited either internally from the Civil Service or locally in Geneva. All recruitment was carried out in-house by existing government HR teams and the specific costs attributable for the recruitment for these positions at the UK Mission are not readily available. There was no recruitment (or advertising) through external suppliers. We continue to keep the level of staffing at the UK Mission under review.</p> more like this
