star this property answer text <p>The Guardianship (Missing Persons) Act received Royal Assent in April 2017. The Government remains committed to bringing the Act into force as soon as possible. This depends upon the creation of the necessary secondary legislation and administrative systems in the courts and the Office of the Public Guardian to define and support the working of the new procedure.</p><p> </p><p>Due to the demands of work on pressing government priorities, the officials responsible for the necessary legislation have not been able to complete preparation of the draft legislation as quickly as they had hoped. As the work is at a relatively early stage, the Government is not currently able to confirm a date for commencement, but intends to set out its approach to commencement by the Summer Recess.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to ensuring that all victims of crime, including crime that constitutes anti-social behaviour, receive the help and support they need.</p><p> </p><p>The Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme (the Scheme) is a government-funded scheme that exists to compensate blameless victims of violent crime who have sustained physical or mental injuries. The rules of the Scheme and the tariff of awards to be paid are approved by Parliament, and the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) administers these rules independently of Government.</p><p> </p><p>Victims of anti-social behaviour who suffer physical or mental injury as a result of a crime of violence as set out in Annex B of the Scheme may be entitled to claim compensation from the CICA.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>On 5 December 2016 the government launched a consultation on driving offences and penalties relating to causing death and serious injury. This ran until 1 February 2017 and received over 9,000 responses.</p><p> </p><p>The government response to the consultation was published on 16 October 2017 and can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/driving-offences-and-penalties-relating-to-causing-death-or-serious-injury.</p><p> </p><p>The government is committed to making sure that the courts have sufficient powers to deal with driving offences appropriately and proportionately.</p><p> </p><p>We will bring forward proposals for changes in the law as soon as parliamentary time allows. These proposals will take account of, and incorporate, all of government’s proposals for safer roads, including those arising from the Department of Transport’s review of cycle safety.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to ensuring that victims of crime have access to a broad range of support services, to help them cope with and, as far as possible, recover from the effects of crime.</p><p> </p><p>We have again allocated Police and Crime Commissioners approximately £68m from our budget to locally commission or provide support services for victims. In 2018/19 the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Yorkshire will receive almost £2.7m.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, victims in West Yorkshire have access to range of nationally commissioned support services, including three rape support centres, which receive approximately £238k in direct grant funding from the Ministry of Justice.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to ensuring that victims of crime have access to a broad range of support services, to help them cope with and, as far as possible, recover from the effects of crime.</p><p> </p><p>We are spending an estimated £96m this year to fund support services for victims of crime through a mix of local and nationally commissioned services. From this budget, we have again allocated Police and Crime Commissioners around £68m to locally commission emotional and practical support services for victims of crime.</p><p> </p><p>As part of our victims strategy, due to be published in summer, we are developing a new delivery model for support services. We will consider options for further devolution as part of this work.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Our legal aid system is a fundamental pillar of access to justice; that is why we have made sure that legal aid continues to be available for the most vulnerable in our society and for the most serious cases. The Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 provides for legal aid to be available, among other matters, for asylum cases, immigration detention, immigration applications and appeals in cases of human trafficking and modern slavery, subject to a test of the applicant’s financial means and the merits of their case.</p><p>This government is absolutely committed to ensuring access to justice, and it will remain at the heart of our reforms.</p> more like this
