star this property answer text <p>The HMRC office at Portsmouth, Lynx House, is scheduled to close in 2025-26 under HMRC’s location strategy. The number of staff in the office who may be at risk of redundancy will not be known until after the completion of conversations between staff and their managers. The discussions are held around a year in advance of any move and take personal circumstances into account.</p><p> </p><p>HMRC wants to keep as many employees as possible as it moves to its regional centres. It has been clear that if someone can move to a regional centre and has the skills it needs or is able to develop them, there will be a role for them.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to improving access to financial services. While the decision to close a branch remains a commercial judgement for banks, the impact on communities must be understood, considered and mitigated where possible.</p><p> </p><p>The industry’s Access to Banking Standard, launched in May 2017, commits banks to ensure personal and business customers are better informed about branch closures and the reasons for them closing, along with the options they have locally to continue to access banking services, including specialist assistance for customers who need more help. The Access to Banking Standard is monitored and enforced by the independent Lending Standards Board.</p><p> </p><p>95% of banks’ business customers are now able to withdraw cash, deposit cash and cheques, and make balance enquiries at a Post Office counter via its network of 11,600 branches. At Budget, I wrote to the Post Office and UK Finance to ask them to raise public awareness of the banking services available at the Post Office for individuals and SMEs.</p><p> </p><p>Government will have provided nearly £2 billion during the period 2011 to 2018 to maintain and modernise the Post Office network.</p>

star this property answer text <p>HMRC was provided with £47m at Supplementary Estimates 2017-18 for EU Exit related work, and allocated a further £260m at Spring Statement 2018 for 2018-19. As with all Reserve funding next year, finalised allocations will be confirmed at Supplementary Estimates 2018-19 in early 2019. This funding will allow HMRC to support ongoing work to deliver the UK’s new customs, tax and welfare arrangements with the EU, including preparation of the borders.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>HMRC is reshaping to become a modern, flexible and cost-effective organisation, occupying fewer offices, and able to maximise revenue yield through increased compliance, greater capacity for digital business and by providing better, more personal services for its customers. Around 6,000 staff leave the department each year through resignations, retirements, and for other reasons. It is not possible to reliably calculate the exact number of years of experience which this equates to in any given year, as HMRC does not hold all the data necessary to adjust for those who are part-time, those who had career breaks, or those who worked other reduced working patterns.</p> more like this
