star this property answer text <p>Building on the successes of City Deals, all 39 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) have been invited to develop Strategic Economic Plans to set out what needs to be done to boost growth in their area. </p><p>As part of each Strategic Economic Plan, a Growth Deal bid is being developed for negotiation with central government for the allocation of the Local Growth Fund.</p><p>The Local Growth Fund will be at least &pound;2 billion a year from 2015/16. As a result of this, all parts of England are able to access and benefit from this initiative.</p><p> </p> more like this

I have asked IPSA to reply.</p><p><em>Letter from Andrew McDonald, 3/10/2014 2013:</em></p><blockquote><p>As Chief Executive of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority, I have been asked to reply to your Parliamentary Question asking about IPSA's Contingency Panel.</p><p>The rules concerning the Contingency Panel are set out at Paragraph 10.12 of the MPs' Scheme of Business Costs and Expenses.</p><p>They set out that in relation to each application the Contingency Panel will consider:</p><p>a. whether there are exceptional circumstances warranting additional support;</p><p>b. whether the MP could reasonably have been expected to take any action to avoid the circumstances which gave rise to the expenditure or liability; and</p><p>c. whether the MP's performance of parliamentary functions will be significantly impaired by a refusal of the claim.</p><p>Given the significant increase in staffing budgets made in 2012/13, we have not provided contingency funding for MPs' staffing expenditure budgets on the basis of increased casework in 2013/14.</p></blockquote>

star this property answer text <p>It is important that maintenance of post-second World War military graves in the UK is undertaken in the most efficient and effective way. <br><br>The transfer of responsibility for some 6,139 graves from the Ministry of Defence to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), who already maintain many more such graves, is accordingly under consideration. Discussions between the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and the CWGC about the possibility of such a change are ongoing.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p> </p><p>HS2 will help to promote economic growth and drive regional regeneration by bringing our major cities closer together, supporting job creation across the country and deliver around £2 of benefits for every £1 spent.</p><p> </p><p>The Department has not assessed the potential economic benefits of extending HS2 to Colchester.</p><p> </p><p>Only last Monday (7th July) Government announced the first instalment of plans to invest at least £12billion in local economies across England in a series of Growth Deals, between 2015/16 and 2020/21.</p><p> </p><p>As part of their Growth Deal the South East Local Enterprise Partnership (which includes Essex as well as Thurrock, Southend, Kent, Medway and East Sussex) has secured some £442 million to support economic growth in the area – with £64 million of new funding confirmed for 2015/16.</p><p> </p><p>As part of this allocation there is £2m for a programme of sustainable transport measures in Colchester, alongside a further £10m for integrated transport packages in the Town Centre. This is on top of a provisional allocation in the region of £3m towards transport improvements in the A133 Colchester to Clacton corridor.</p><p> </p>

star this property answer text <p>We are supporting the continued peace talks between the Burmese government and ethnic armed groups and the agreement to work towards a nationwide ceasefire and political dialogue. However, we remain concerned by continued fighting in Kachin State and Northern Shan State, and reports of human rights violations.</p><p>I discussed the peace process with the Burmese government and the military Commander in Chief during my visit to Burma in January 2014, and in Kachin with the army's Northern Commander and ethnic and religious leaders. Our Ambassador in Rangoon regularly raises both our concerns and our support for a sustainable peace through ceasefire and political dialogue with Burmese government ministers, officials and ethnic leaders.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Department for Education is not involved with this publication, nor have we received any reports from schools regarding any such requests.</p><p> </p><p>The new national curriculum for history, to be taught in maintained schools from September 2014, includes key developments relating to the history of Parliament ranging from Magna Carta and the emergence of Parliament to women’s suffrage in the early twentieth century. In addition, as part of the new national curriculum for citizenship, secondary age pupils should be taught about the development of the political system of democratic government in the United Kingdom, including the roles of citizens, Parliament and the monarch. Schools are free to choose which resources they use to teach the curriculum; the work being carried out by the Trust to educate young people about the history of Parliament through teaching resources and school competitions will help schools in teaching these key developments in British history.</p><p> </p>
