star this property answer text <p>All local authorities are bound by common law and must act reasonably and with due regard to their general fiduciary duty to tax payers. The compliance for awarding contracts by local authorities for any work, not just the sale for development of public land, is laid out in the Public Contracts Regulations. There is no day-to-day role for my Department to play in overseeing compliance.<br><br>The Secretary of State does have back-stop powers to intervene in a local authority under section 15 of the Local Government Act 1999 where he is satisfied that the authority is failing to comply with the requirements of Part1 of that Act - to make arrangements to secure continuous improvement in the way in which its functions are exercised, having regard to a combination of economy, efficiency and effectiveness.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>As of 12 November, the UK has conducted 16 strikes in Iraq from Tornado and Reaper aircraft using Paveway IV bombs and Hellfire and Brimstone missiles against a range of targets including vehicles, troop positions, heavy weapons and facilities. Assessments of these strikes have shown that they hit and destroyed their targets successfully. An accurate count of ISIL casualties cannot always be made in this type of environment. All air strikes are conducted in accordance with the Rules of Engagement and international humanitarian law. Careful selection, approval and close observation of targets prior to a strike and the use of precision guided munitions minimises collateral damage and the potential for civilian casualties. To date we have not received any reports of civilian casualties, which is supported by our own analysis of each attack.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Civil nuclear safety and security are priorities for the Government. The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) regulates safety and security at UK licenced nuclear sites and site licensees are required to demonstrate appropriate security plans against a range of relevant threats, which are updated on an on-going basis. The details of these threats are not released on grounds of National Security.</p><p>DECC officials are currently reviewing the evidence from the session of the French Parliament and relevant findings will be taken forward with the ONR.</p> more like this
