In the financial &amp; insurance activities sector, the overall gender pay gap is (including both part time and full time workers) down from 44.3% in 2011 to 40.2% in 2014. However, the sector still has a completely unacceptable pay gap of around twice the national average, so more needs to be done. We are strongly encouraging more girls to consider maths and science-related careers through the “Your Life” initiative. Women in the sector will also benefit from the many other measures we are taking to drive the pay gap down further, including extending flexible working to all employees; introducing Shared Parental Leave; and bringing in new childcare tax provisions. We are also providing free software to companies for them to calculate any pay gaps and to analyse the causes of them.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The UK takes a voluntary approach increasing the numbers of women on boards. We are making progress with the Lord Davies business-led initiative to achieve 25% women on boards by 2015 and have moved from 12.5% to nearly 23% of women on the boards of the top 100 companies since 2011. For the first time, every board of Britain’s top 100 companies has at least one woman. These will be give young people the skills, qualifications and self-discipline needed to turn their back on crime and become productive members of society.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, a competition is underway for new contracts which will aim to more than double the number of hours young people in Young Offenders Institutions spend in education each week.</p><p> </p><p>Evidence relating to education in custody has been included in recent publications by the Ministry of Justice and Youth Justice Board (YJB). 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/11/2014 answer text <p /> <p>The National Offender Management Service (NOMS) will not tolerate violence of any kind in prisons and takes any instance extremely seriously. It insists on respectful and decent behaviour from staff, prisoners and others with whom we work. Where discrimination, harassment or bullying, either homophobic or for any other reason occurs, we take prompt and appropriate action. All violence (including bullying, victimisation and harassment), is dealt with quickly and robustly, with serious incidents referred to the police for prosecution.</p><p> </p><p>Current policy contained in Prison Service Instruction (PSI) 64/2011 states that every verbal or physical act of violence must be challenged, and this includes bullying. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/04/2014 answer text <p> </p><p> </p><p>There have always been controls on the sending of parcels into prisons, and allowing parcels to be sent in unrestricted would be operationally unmanageable and would lead to a significant risk of drugs and other illicit items being smuggled into prisons.</p><p> </p><p>We have always recognised the importance of reading and literature in the rehabilitative process, and the positive effects this has on prisoners' welfare. The National Offender Management Service works closely with schemes such as the Shannon Trust reading network, which includes peer mentoring to improve reading levels.</p><p> </p><p>The Howard League for Penal Reform, English PEN and Liberty have made representations concerning prisoner access to books. There have been no changes in the availability of books in prisons. Every prison has a library, to which every prisoner has access. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/05/2014 answer text <p> </p><p> </p><p>We will carefully consider the Ombudsman's recommendations made in the Learning Lessons Bulletin on Risk Factors in self-inflicted deaths in prison to identify further learning. I also refer the honourable member to the answer given to the Lord's Oral Question on 6 February 2014 (<em>Official report Col 36 )</em>, announcing that the Government hasestablished an Independent Review into the self-inflicted deaths of 18-24 year olds in NOMS custody. The review is being led by Lord Harris of Haringey and will report by Spring 2015. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/11/2014 answer text <p>The Coalition Government has part funded a new study by Equality Now and City University into the prevalence of female genital mutilation in England and Wales. <br><br>The interim report, published in July 2014, has estimated that approximately 60,000 girls aged 0-14 were born in England and Wales to mothers who had had FGM, and that approximately 103,000 women aged 15-49 and approximately 24,000 women aged 50 and over who have migrated to England and Wales are living with the consequences of FGM. In addition, approximately 10,000 girls aged under 15 who have migrated to England and Wales are likely to have suffered FGM. <br><br>The full report, with data disaggregated to a local level, will be released in the new year.<br><br>In addition, since April 2014 NHS staff have been required to record in a patient’s healthcare record whenever it is identified that the patient has <br>suffered FGM. This applies to all NHS clinicians and healthcare professionals across the NHS. Individual police forces are responsible for collecting information relating to the Domestic Violence Protection Orders (DVPOs). <br><br>The Government has committed to assessing the effectiveness of DVPOs in the new year.
