star this property answer text <p>I am sorry, but the department does not collect data on the number of care leavers starting education, training or employment during the year.</p><p>The department collects data on the number of care leavers who are in higher education, other types of education, or training or employment on or around their birthday for care leavers aged 17 to 21 years old, but does not provide information on when the care leaver started the activity. star this property answer text <p>I am sorry, but the department does not collect complete information on the number of children in kinship care.</p><p>Data is collected on looked after children who are placed with an approved foster carer who is a relative, friend or other person connected with the child (locally known as ‘family and friends foster care’ or ‘kinship foster care’) and special guardianship orders (SGOs) made to carers other than former foster carers.</p><p>In the year to 31 March 2017, there were 8,830 looked-after children in a foster care with a relative, friend or other connected person. star this property answer text <p>The government issued statutory guidance in 2011 for local authorities about supporting family and friends providing care for children who cannot live with their parents. The guidance makes it clear that children and young people should receive the support that they and their carers need to safeguard and promote their welfare. It explains that support, including financial support, can be provided under section 17 of the Children Act 1989. There is no limit on the level of support, including financial support, that local authorities can provide. The guidance does not specifically address the issue of supporting more than one child or where the family have their own children. However, these factors will be taken into account in the assessment of need of the family. The local authority should have in place clear eligibility criteria in relation to the provision of support services including financial support.</p> more like this
