star this property answer text <p>We take both the protection of personal data and the right to privacy extremely seriously. Our new data protection legislation is going to make our laws fit for the digital age in which an ever increasing amount of data is being processed. Organisations will need to be clearer with people how their data will be used and ensure that any consent obtained is clear, unambiguous and purposeful. It will empower people to take control of their data, strengthening their rights to move or delete personal data.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is responsible for regulating compliance with data protection legislation.</p><p> </p><p>There are a number of tools available to the ICO to ensure compliance. These include criminal prosecution, non-criminal enforcement and audit. The Information Commissioner also has the power to serve a monetary penalty notice on a data controller. Further details of the actions which can be taken can be found on <a href="http://www.ico.org.uk/" target="_blank">www.ico.org.uk</a>.</p><p> </p><p>The government's Data Protection Bill will strengthen legislation around data protection and give the Commissioner tougher powers to ensure that organisations comply.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Gas Act 1986 already confers a duty on my rt. hon. Friend the Secretary of State to ‘secure that, so far as it is economical to meet them, all reasonable demands in Great Britain for gas conveyed through pipes’. This duty is exercised through obligations and licence conditions placed upon gas operators.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, the Gas Act 1986 (ss.9 &amp; 10) also confers on Gas Distribution Network operators the obligation to comply with requests to be connected to their gas mains, so far as it is economical to do so, and where the premises to be connected are within 23 metres of a relevant main.</p> more like this
