star this property answer text <p>As stated in the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions’ observations, DWP has set clear requirements on the professions, skills, experience and training of the Health Professionals that the Assessment Providers can use to carry out Personal Independence Payment assessments. In addition to their qualified profession, they must have at least two years’ experience following registration, as well as awareness training in specific conditions.</p><p> </p><p>Health Assessment Providers frequently engage with medical experts, charities and relevant stakeholders to strengthen review and update training programmes for all their assessment staff.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>There are a number of factors that impact on the length of time taken to complete the report following the assessment, for example, whether the assessment was conducted in a person’s home or at an assessment centre. As the Second Independent Review of PIP acknowledged, the logistics in organising and conducting home visits will introduce some time delay in writing up reports immediately after the assessment.</p><p> </p><p>The Department expects assessment reports to be completed in a timely manner following the assessment but does not set a fixed timeframe for the completion of assessment reports following the assessment.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p><strong> </strong></p><p>Any claimant who is required to attend an Employment and Support Allowance or Personal Independent Payment assessment will be reimbursed for any reasonable travel costs associated with attending the assessment. The Department and its assessment providers do not pay travel costs in advance and we have no plans to change the current policy which is consistent with other areas of Government such as the NHS Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme.</p><p> </p><p>All claimants who are required to attend an assessment are advised in their appointment letter to contact the relevant provider if they have any difficulty in attending the assessment. Where such situations arise, the Department expects the assessment providers to explore all possible options to ensure that an assessment can be conducted. For example, this may include changing the location of an assessment or undertaking a home visit where a person’s health condition indicates that either they cannot travel to an assessment, or where travel would require high levels of support or cause significant distress.</p>

star this property answer text <p>Following the conclusion of the Secretary of State’s annual up-rating review, subject to Parliamentary approval, the Standard Minimum Guarantee in Pension Credit will increase by 10.1% from April 2023. This is in line with the increase in prices in the year to September 2022 and it will also extend CPI protection to those who rely on the Standard Minimum Guarantee in Pension Credit at a cost of £700 million above the statutory minimum requirement.</p><p>Other elements of Pension Credit will also increase by 10.1%, including the additional amounts for disabled people and carers, and the threshold for access to the Savings Credit for those who reached State Pension age before April 2016.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The government continues to advocate for the importance of pension saving which offers greater financial resilience in later life. Automatic Enrolment (AE) has transformed pension participation rates, with 86% of eligible private sector employees saving into a workplace pension in 2021, up from 42% in 2012.</p><p> </p><p>AE was deliberately designed with an opt-out to give people choice, enabling them to decide if saving for a pension is right for them given their circumstances and affordability.</p><p> </p><p>This is why when an individual makes the decision to pause or cease contributions, the AE framework requires their employer to re-assess and re-enol their eligible employees every three years, which prevents individuals from falling out of pension saving in the medium to long term.</p><p> </p><p>The re-enrolment regime has been successful, seeing 1 million eligible job holders automatically re-enrolled since the introduction of AE in 2012.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>There are no plans to place an additional statutory requirement on businesses to provide non-digital opt-out notices and information on automatic enrolment (AE). Detailed guidance from The Pensions Regulator (TPR) specifically asks employers to consider the appropriateness of the format of the information they are providing to their workers (such as digital access). This is ultimately a choice for individual employers and pension schemes to make based on their own circumstances and considering employee/member needs.</p><p> </p><p>Further guidance from TPR is available to aid employers in fulfilling their AE obligations, including on providing information on AE and the right to opt-out (at section 5).
