I stressed the importance of holding free and fair elections in line with the Zimbabwean Constitution and international standards. unstar this property answer text <p>The UK has had regular contact with the Zimbabwean Government over the last two weeks. Most recently, I met with incoming President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday. Officials have also met Chief of Defence Staff General Chiwenga.</p><p>These dramatic political events were clearly triggered by a military intervention. But the most important thing now is that Zimbabweans are able to exercise their constitutional right to elect a civilian government. This can only happen through free and fair elections. A re-establishment of a civilian-led government with a clear separation between the party and the state must be a priority. The UK has made this clear to the Government of Zimbabwe.</p><p> </p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Government takes its arms export licensing responsibilities very seriously and operates one of the most robust arms export control regimes in the world. All export licence applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis against the Consolidated EU and National Arms Export Licensing Criteria, taking account of all relevant factors at the time of the application.</p><p>The conflict is making the delivery of commercial and humanitarian supplies into Yemen, and their onward distribution, extremely difficult. We continue to urge all parties to the conflict to take all reasonable steps to allow the delivery and distribution of aid, and to facilitate rapid and safe humanitarian access. We also call upon all sides to do everything possible to prevent civilian casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The UK has committed £87 million to Yemen for 2021/22 which will address food insecurity and support nutrition. This includes feeding 240,000 of the most vulnerable Yemenis every month and supporting 1.5 million of the most vulnerable households with additional cash assistance to allow them to buy food and basic supplies and support 400 health centres. Globally the UK has committed £548 million to COVAX, which has allocated 2.3 million vaccines to Yemen. We also continue to work with donors, the UN and NGOs to lobby the parties to lift access restrictions and ensure humanitarian aid reaches those who most need it in Yemen.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Pensions Schemes Act 2015 requires that members of pension schemes with safeguarded benefits take independent financial advice before accessing their pension pot flexibly, where the total value of the member’s benefits exceeds £30,000. These pensions offer a high level of security and guarantees that should not be relinquished without consumers being supported to make an informed choice about the risks.</p><p> </p><p>In 2019, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) found that consumers who took advice from firms that charged on a non-contingent basis typically paid £2,500 - £3,500 for advice.</p><p> </p><p>There are a variety of resources available to help consumers shop around for an advice firm that best meets their needs, including MoneyHelper’s Retirement Adviser Directory.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The government continues to advocate for the importance of pension saving which offers greater financial resilience in later life. Automatic Enrolment (AE) has transformed pension participation rates, with 86% of eligible private sector employees saving into a workplace pension in 2021, up from 42% in 2012.</p><p> </p><p>AE was deliberately designed with an opt-out to give people choice, enabling them to decide if saving for a pension is right for them given their circumstances and affordability.</p><p> </p><p>This is why when an individual makes the decision to pause or cease contributions, the AE framework requires their employer to re-assess and re-enol their eligible employees every three years, which prevents individuals from falling out of pension saving in the medium to long term.</p><p> </p><p>The re-enrolment regime has been successful, seeing 1 million eligible job holders automatically re-enrolled since the introduction of AE in 2012.</p><p> </p> more like this
