	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/07/2017 answer text <p>The Government has not made an assessment of the annual cost of bank transfer scams (otherwise known as Authorised Push Payment scams) to the UK economy, because the Payment Systems Regulator (PSR) is currently undertaking work to assess the scale and scope of the problem.</p><p> </p><p>This is part of their wider programme of work to better protect consumers from these scams and reduce the damage they cause. The programme also includes working with Financial Fraud Action UK to develop a common understanding of what data on these scams can be shared between banks, and what barriers stand in the way of sharing further information; and developing best practice standards that banks should follow when responding to these scams.</p><p> </p><p>The PSR is also looking at what role the payment system operators CHAPS and Faster Payments Service (the systems that allow push payments to be made) could play in mitigating the damage caused by Authorised Push Payment scams.</p><p> </p><p>The PSR will publish a review of progress in the second half of 2017.</p> answering member constituency North East Cambridgeshire answering member printed Stephen Barclay question first answered 04/07/2017 16:34:58 answering member 4095 label Biography information for Steve Barclay

The department has continued to reduce its paper consumption. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/07/2017 answer text <p>As stated in the Government’s Transformation Strategy and the Conservative Manifesto, this government is committed to providing services that are digital by default - reducing paper and manual processing, reducing cost and improving user satisfaction.</p><p>BEIS is actively working with all its Arm’s Length Bodies, internal teams and contracted service providers to reduce the amount of paper processing by delivering services digitally wherever possible. There will always be some exceptions where, for legal reasons, paper processing is required but we will continue to explore how new technologies can overcome these barriers and implement them as soon as possible.</p><p>Some examples of what the BEIS Group has already delivered or are in the process of delivering include:</p><p>Land Registry has developed a new Local Land Charge Register Service to digitise existing paper records from 326 Local Authorities and migrate them to a single national Local Land Charge register. This will improve resilience, improve the customer experience of using this service and introduce standardise fees.</p><p>The Innovation Funding Service has developed a new digital service to replace a previously paper based process to submit online applications for research and development funding. Innovate UK run approximately 100 competitions per year and receives in excess of 4,000 applications.</p><p>Finally, the Intellectual Property Office has designed a new digital service that enables customers to apply for a patent design online.
