unstar this property answer text
Since the 21 April the House of Lords has conducted virtual sittings of the House, and the broadcasting unit have been developing the necessary infrastructure to enable high quality live broadcast of these proceedings. In the interim period, all virtual sittings were made available online as video or audio files as soon as possible after the proceedings concluded. The Hansard record of proceedings for each virtual sitting has also been made available online from approximately three hours after each sitting. On Tuesday 28 April and Thursday 30 April the virtual sittings of the House were broadcast live on parliamentlive.tv.

As of this week, the House of Lords has begun to use the same system as the House of Commons to enable high-quality live broadcast output via parliamentlive.tv. As well as virtual sittings of the House, House of Lords committees have been continuing to meet remotely, and last week the first virtual evidence sessions with witnesses were broadcast live on parliamentlive.tv. Throughout this period the House Administration has used social media channels to promote democratic engagement and publicise the channels through which members of the public can continue to follow virtual House of Lords proceedings.

unstar this property answer text
As the Prime Minister has said before, everyone working in Parliament deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. This inquiry has brought to light behaviour which is unacceptable, and it is incumbent on the House of Lords to take swift action. It is important that the House now carefully considers the concerns raised in this important report, and responds to its recommendations.

It is primarily for Parliament, rather than Government, to consider how best to respond to Naomi Ellenbogen QC’s recommendations. The House of Lords Commission met on Wednesday 17 July in order to plan its response to the recommendations. Every member of the Commission committed to complete the Valuing Everyone training course, and the leaders of the political groupings committed their front bench to do the same. The Commission agreed the establishment of a Steering Group of staff, members and others to embark on the process of moving forward with Naomi Ellenbogen QC’s recommendations, and the new Conduct Committee will examine those which relate to the Code of Conduct.

unstar this property answer text
The Critical Imports and Supply Chains Strategy includes several actions to make it easier for businesses to share information on difficulties or disruptions they face importing critical goods. These include creating a new import barrier reporting mechanism and a new business/government Critical Imports Council. The Government is now working to establish both of these and we are confident they will both increase our understanding of the challenges businesses face and enhance business and government collaboration to tackle the issues and strengthen our critical supply chains.
more like this

unstar this property answer text
The Government notes the report and is already working to deliver economic growth through our trade strategy. We are opening markets through trade agreements and bilateral relationships, protecting UK business, and working to strengthen the World Trade Organisation and global rulebook. We are focused on deepening economic relationships with high-growth countries and providing businesses with the right foundations to drive growth and raise living standards. Noting the recommendation on services, we continue to negotiate ambitious commitments in Free Trade Agreements to remove barriers to services trade, provide greater choice, innovation, competition, and deliver meaningful benefits to UK businesses and consumers.
more like this

unstar this property answer text
The Financial Reporting Council has conducted outreach with its regulated communities, establishing a Technology & Digital Steering Group, publishing work on the use of technology and committing to “promote improvement and innovation”. Overall, its view is that use of artificial intelligence and machine learning tools by those for which it has regulatory responsibility presents potential opportunities for quality improvements, though there are risks which require mitigation. The FRC continues to work on initiatives to support the safe use of these tools by audit firms, based on the principles in the Government's March 2023 white paper, “AI regulation: a pro-innovation approach”.
more like this
